After what happened last year, we need that bye.

what are the Rangers odds to get in?

thats who everyone in the AL needs to hope stays out of the playoffs.

3 frontline starters is how average teams make playoff runs.

This. Their offense has been showing alot of life lately. Combine that with their pitching and they can be a huge factor.

Yep. Those starters and a less than average offense that gets a couple of guys hot at the right time = 2019 Nats. Or 2023 Rangers.

I admire the warrior mentality, but damn this feels reckless to me. I can't help but fear this is going to be just like JV from 2020, where he is going to realize months later that he needs surgery after all, which is going to put 2026 in jeopardy as a result.

This is the kinda BS we were talking about yesterday.

Passed on surgery sooner rather than later and introduced the possibility of not being ready for next season for an outside chance of returning this season.

Makes no GD sense to me.

Listening to it now.

Deadline Recap
  • Feel good about 3 guys
  • Have pitching coming back, wanted offense - left-handed bat
  • Chance at becoming a well-oiled machine with these guys added to the offense and pitching coming back from injury.
  • In order to keep the window open for winning, you have to operate in the present and future.
Pitching (Sean asked which is bigger in decision making at the deadline - getting guys back or was the cost too high)
  • Getting guys back from the IL is a big part of why we didn't get someone at the deadline
  • Spaghetti can get up to 80 pitches today. Needs to throw strikes and stay efficient.
  • Javier is at 94-95, breaking ball looks good, coming out of the hand well, 1 more start and he's gunna be ready.
  • Garcia is about 2 starts behind Javier, pretty close.
  • Got the 2 horses at the top with Brown/Valez then you have Spaghetti, Javier, and Garcia. Sounds like a championship rotation. [no mention of McCullers]
  • Commends the guys who came up and added to the mix.
Correa
  • After Peredes went out, Correa came on the radar.
  • Jim Crane was on board and we dove in.
  • Got out leadership back, swinging it well, can defend, [Dana] pumped about it all.
Yordan
  • Looking well
  • Full BP on field
  • Increase intensity (BP off machine at high velo, Lives off of pitchers)
  • On his way back
  • As long as he can get thru this, he can be back in the near future.
  • Mentioned adding Yordan first, then Myers.
Sanchez
  • Besides the obvious (left-handed bat) we like Sanchez because he's so well-liked in the clubhouse and he has upside to add power.
  • Made a nice play cutting a guy down at 3B.
  • Flair to him
  • Have him for 2 more years after this, we're excited.
Paredes (where does he play when he comes back?)
  • Great problem to have.
  • We'll cross that bridge when we get there
  • We have lots of INFs that can play multiple positions
  • Gunna be a big part of this team
  • Move someone to 2B - again, these guys have played multiple positions
Pitching - Bullpen Freshness
  • The beauty of getting starters back, we can go deeper into games., which gives bullpen a rest
  • Starters are rested coming off IL.
  • It all lines up down the stretch.
  • Credit to Joe for holding this thing together with 18 guys on the IL. These guys all stepped. Time for it all to come together.
McCullers
  • Throw 1 more side then rehab then back in the bigs. Coming along nicely.
  • Should be ready right after the rehab start.
  • Its really coming together for us.

Serious question.

Is there any difference letting these guys pitch at the major league level versus throwing AAA guys at the MLB level? I get it that they can get in trouble quick, and hitters are better, but I think I'd rather take my chances with a MLB pitcher versus a AAA guy.

That '23 Arlington team had a top 2-3 offense all year. Nats weren't as good, but more in the top 5-10 range. This year's team is bottom 10, easily. It takes more than just quality arms. Look how dominant Alvarez, Brown, and Kikuchi were last year with a top 10ish offense.

Yeah...Their rehab outings don't count when they're in AAA.

You can't just come back from injury and start facing ML hitting especially when we're in tight division race.

They need to build up conditioning, feel for pitches, mechanics, etc. Figure that shlt out in AAA where if you get lit up it doesn't cost us games in the standings.

Or a chance of not needing surgery at all. The doctors make recommendations. The 2nd opinion opened up this path. Paredes wants it. The Astros can't force him to go under the knife.

That makes sense. I didn't think about it not counting towards their stats.
Ag_07
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I don't think stats are the main concern.

It's about winning games and throwing a guy out there who's still working his way back is not putting yourself in the best position to win games.

It would be a disservice to everyone to let guys skip AAA rehab games and go straight to the ML club.

you have a chance to win now. You do it. Next year isn't guaranteed. Our record could be flipped at this time next year and we would be sellers at the deadline. If there is any chance at all he can help in the playoffs you explore that option first.

I think Horn means why don't we just go to proven MLB pitcher, Javier, instead of having a AAA pitcher, Gordon, rather than have a rehab start in AAA, now if you're going to get the same innings from them.

When did Garcia go out on his rehab assignment? He only has 30 days to complete it, so if he's 2 starts behind, he's bumping into that 30-day window.

He started 7/7. Here is the unusual thing I haven't seen anyone discuss. He's kind of building up, kind of not. In his 5 rehab appearances (not always starts), he's gone 2.0, 2.0, 2.0, 2.1, 2.2 IP. His pitches were 27, 18, 23, 46, 49. Maybe he was just really efficient in those Rookie/A ball games. I guess we'll see if he's 50+ on Monday to know if he's coming back as a starter or not. He could be a bridge from SP to high leverage. He throws much harder out of the pen.
Wabs
How long do you want to ignore this user?
What is the purpose of Paredes not getting the surgery right now? Are they thinking he'll be back for the postseason?
