Diamondbacks got 9 consecutive 2 out hits in the 5th inning today. That doesn't even seem possible.

Do you live in Arizona?

Yes but I've been going to Astros games since they were the Colt 45's. First game in 1964. I just found 9 consecutive hits with 2 outs pretty astounding.

one small nugget to file away for late September...

the Astros have an off-day before the final series vs. the Mariners at Daikin on Sep 19-20-21

Seattle does not. The M's play in Kansas City the day before

potential bullpen advantage for the 'stros plus an opportunity to skip the 5th starter (whoever that is by then)

So can anybody explain what has happened to the Braves? They were a budding dynasty, extended their young stars, seemed to be making all the right moves, and now are putrid

2021: WS Champs
2022: 101-61
2023: 104-58
2024: 89-73
2025: will finish below .500

I am guessing that Gordon goes down (for the 26-man transaction) based on Alexander's performance and Gordon warming up in the pen today during the game.

Valdez, Brown, Javier, Arrighetti, Alexander
Hader, Abreu, Sousa, King, Okert
Neris, Ort, De Los Santos

Hernandez or Van Wey probably get DFAed.

Dubin's return will be the one that forces an interesting bullpen move.

Any news on Walter? He was supposed to throw a bullpen session this past week.

I know we love to rag in him, but am I the only one who thinks Boone is a pretty good manager?

Surviving in NYC with that job is pretty remarkable. I think I mostly don't like him because of who he works for. His dad was a consumate pro, and he and his brother seemed to be that way at least from what I remember of their careers.

I'm sure he will be throwing BP. To Yordan and Jake. Any day now.

Just more evidence to show how rare the Astros continued success is. For most teams you can be great and seem on the right path and for some reason things just don't work out for you.

It's the doubled edge of the double edged sword when it comes to extensions of young players who haven't exactly proven it yet.

I know people want to do the same deal with Cam, but I'm honestly not opposed, even if it's more expensive, waiting at least a full year to see how he handles the sophomore season adjustments.

So the Mariners closed the gap with a 10 game homestand while we played 9 on the road. Big whoop. They now have 9 on the road, followed by 6 at home, and then 9 more on the road. Meanwhile we have 6 at home, 7 on the road, then our own 10 game homestand.
Their little dream world is about to come crashing down.

I've had about enough Big Doper hype. About time for a nice little 3-6 road trip

Shut your mouth. They're just setting up that 27-16 finish

Biggest positive over the week is this has essentially worked itself to a 2 team battle for the west

Rangers could've gotten hot and made it a three team battle… But 6 1/2 games is a lot to overcome in 44 games to finish the year

So what kind of insane blister did Lance have? This must be a flesh eating one or something given that he's been out almost a month…

Serious question...do we want him on the mound? I don't. If he comes back, you have to carry a pitcher who can't pitch

I do not… I'm just saying I think the blister was a pretty silly reason to have him out for a month. I'm guessing it was something different or they just wanna hold him to work on stuff

like I have said for the last 4 years...McCullers needs to be moved to the pen.

not sure why they keep pretending he is a starter.

he seems like a lost cause at this point(obvious) but if he makes it back this month I would give him some bullpen innings and maybe it changes things

Didn't the Astros have an 8 game lead at the end of June that has evaporated?

I wouldn't call this a two team race yet.

True… But the Rangers have to overtake two teams. And let's be honest Seattle is a machine right now.

So it would take both Seattle and Houston collapsing, along with the Rangers getting very hot at the same time. Which is not impossible… Just not very probable.

If he can cut down on the strike outs and keep the slug going I think he will end up with respectable stats by the end of the year. His lack of power has been the big surprise for me this year. We knew he wouldn't be a high batting average guy, but only having 16 home runs is a bit of a shock. I really thought he would be a 30 home run guy.

I know he's been better but what's his stats with RISP? His first two games in NY were brutal

to be fair, that's not a problem that's exclusive to him. the whole team is awful with RISP.

We're about league avg with RISP. Pena has been elite. Cam and Caratini both very good. Yainer, Aluve, and Walker about league avg. Paredes, Jake, and Dubon have sucked.
houag78
How long do you want to ignore this user?
If you look at the stats, we're actually middle of the pack on team BA w/ RISP. We're 16th of 30 teams w a .246 avg.
Ironically the M's are 24th at .227. The big thing for them - they are 5th in plate appearances at 1199 vs our 1096 - so they have over a 100 more AB w RISP than we do - even when you stink at it, the sheer #'s take over.
