With the Astros off yesterday, I instead present to you a very special edition of: Texas Rangerz Bungo.

COWBOY UP
The Rangers lost to the Angels 4-0 yesterday. That gets the old win pace down to 80. So in order to hit 87-75, they now have to close 21-8. Just a .750 winning percentage. Happens all the time.

JUST LIKE SANDY KOUFAX
Jacob DeGrom improved to a perfect 0-4 in August with the loss. It was his first start since August 15. He made it 5 innings and threw 90 pitches. He's pitched 145-1/3 innings this year, the most he's gone since 2019, or as Nolan Ryan used to call it "a good first half of the season."

SPILLED SEMIEN
An injury has caused the Rangers to shut down Marcus Semien for the year. This is confusing to fans of baseball who mistakenly belied he shut down several months ago in this very impressive season of hitting .230 with a .364 slugging percentage.

"HE GETS ON BASE ... but not really"
With their sweet 4 hits yesterday, the Rangers' team OBP for the year is down to .303. Slightly behind the White Sox, but well ahead of the Indians.

RARE AIR
Last night was the Angels' 6th shutout of the season. They are now tied for 27th in the Majors in that category.

Remaining Schedule

6. Toronto - .518 (MIL, HOU, BOS, NYY, CIN, KCR)
20. Boston - .498 (DET, TOR, NYY)
21. Detroit - .487 (BOS, NYY, NYM, KCR)
23. Seattle - .484 (LAD, SDP, HOU, KCR)
24. Houston - .479 (TOR, NYY, SEA)
26. New York - .475 (DET, TOR, HOU, BOS)

One of the easiest schedules with only 3 tough opponents left. 2/3 of those are at home. As long as we don't **** the bed vs the Angels, Rangers, As, Braves, & Rockies of the world, we should be able to hit 90 wins.

Since there was no Stros on last nbight I tuned in to the a bit of the Rangers/Angels game and mg gawd I'm not sure what's worse...The product on the field or the talent in the broadcast booth.

Those two schmucks had my ears bleeding. It was so incredibly cringey.

At one point even made comments to blaming the empty stadium on 'We know those first couple weeks back to school are rough on families so we get the low attendance tonight'.

I believe I have found the flaw in your plan.

Yeah not sure what reason we have to find an easy schedule encouraging.

All this yapping about where to put Yordan is moot until hes added back to the roster.

Dana is on the clock. I figure they have until about 3:00PM today. Maybe a bit longer.

Teams typically wait until later in the day for the move to become official.

All I know is that if he's not added today for the game the meltdown on here will be spectacular. Fran vs OU level spectacular.

I'm not sure that level will ever be matched by the Astros.

I agree with the horrible broadcast commentary - but I learned I have two choices. Either I don't watch the Rangers tv broadcasts and if I do I just hit the mute button. Much more enjoyable that way.

It's BAD

And that's just not me being a Ranger hating Astro fan.

Not sure what I'd do if I had to listen to that all season.

We did have to listen to it all season.

How quickly people forget the Dave Raymond and Brett Dolan years of suckitude.

blast from the past: Jed Lowrie, one of my faves from the down years.

Those were the dark days of Astros radio broadcasts with those two guys. And if course the Strangers hired Dave Raymond which fit right in with their joke of a franchise.
I mean - what kind of baseball franchise would fire Nolan Ryan?

Got rid of my Twitter, so haven't been able to F5 for Yordan updates today.

Unpopular opinion: I don't really like Robert Ford.

That said, he's better than Dolan and Raymond

If Altuve had played his whole career with the Yankees (and he and the team had the same success), he would be talked about right now as possibly the best second baseman in history. Definitely the best postseason second baseman.

I don't dislike Ford, but I don't consider him to be overly special. I honestly find his "see you later, see you later, see you later" to be a bit cringe, but its fine.

I grew up with Milo, so the lack of his iconic voice just takes it down a notch for me (fair or unfair).

Can anybody post screenshots of the 2026 schedule? Twitter doesn't work on our school WiFi

Ironically, there are some similarities between Altuve and Jeter. Both elite bats in the middle infield with postseason performance/heroics, both overrated defensively.

The only difference is Jeter is GOD because he played for the Yankees and Altuve is filthy cheater because he plays for Houston.
MaxPower

There are similarities but Jeter has 5 rings to Jose' 2 and being a bad defensive SS is still more valuable than a bad defensive 2B.

Yes - no doubt WAR favors a SS over a 2B - I am just saying from a perception of greatness standpoint, there are similarities.

Jeter was an outstanding hitter, leader, and postseason performer. His highlight real plays gave a perception that he was a gold glove shortstop when he was fairly average overall at the position. But that package in pinstripes is given a god-like status.

Meanwhile, people are still debating whether Altuve will be deemed Hall worthy.

I wouldn't sell Jeter short. He wasn't just bad. He's statistically the worst defensive player of all time

On a side note, I do find that strange in one way.

There is no doubt that SS defense is more valuable than 2B. But shouldn't the reverse be true as well? Shouldn't a subpar glove at SS get dinged more than a subpar glove at a less premium position?

Because SS defense is important, if you are bad at it, you hurt your team more than a bad 2B. Just look at what we are doing with Altuve. He is a subpar defender now, so where we play him has less to do with his qualifications and where he will likely have less opportunity to do harm.

That San Diego to San Fran swing would be awesome. 2 of the best 3 parks in MLB
Im looking for Ray Finkle.... and a clean pair of shorts. Im just a very big Finkle fan. This is my Graceland, sir.

Washington DC 4th of July and then stay a few extra days to see the Astros.

That might be the trip next summer

Thank you MLB

So 2026 will be the 4th year in a row that the Rangers have the extra home game over the Astros? Is that right?

ETA: considering the season series between the two.

I I were the A's, I would consider a strategy of only drafting / signing guys from Central / South America, the Caribbean, the southern US, and then leaving the roof open all summer to have the visiting teams melt.

I like to play the game sometimes of imagining small-market lifers playing for the Red Sox or Yankees and how that would make them look in the grand scheme of things.

#1 is always Tony Gwynn - 8 batting titles.

#2 is George Brett. When I recently rewatched the '86 All-Star from the Astrodome, Brett gets a HUGE ovation in a city he's never once played in.

Altuve in NYC with the Latino population and the lunch pail attitude would be slightly less famous than Jeter given Jeter's social life, but still an all-time great and an 85%+ first ballot HOFer.
