Man yall couldn't wait until the season was actually over to start blowing it up and trading everyone.?

Sanchez is young and has potential. He's also controllable and cheap. All good reasons to keep him.

He had a 1.1 bWAR and a .740 OPS with Miami in just 86 games, and was on pace for his best season by far (by bWAR) before the trade.

He doesn't play first base, so there's no reason he has to continue to be awful for us next season.

Man, if we are going to ignore all the other stats for every player and only focus on their worst month, we are going to have to get rid of everybody on the current roster including Altuve.

I'm not sure why that's directed at my post.

I was saying he was decent for Miami this season and could be again for us next season because he's not subject to the curse of 1st base.

Sorry, I took what you were saying in the 2nd paragraph as he wasn't needed at 1B, so we could get rid of him and he could "be awful" somewhere else.

I love the Astros, and I want to see them succeed. That being said, ya'll might hate this take...but here it is.

If making the playoffs means we keep Joe and the hitting coaches and don't make significant changes to the roster, then I hope the Astros miss the playoffs. I'm afraid a playoff appearance will make folks forget how bad things really are, chalk it up to injuries and "bad luck", and just want to run it back another year.

And let's not forget about the medical staff (obligatory)

Offseason should be a blast bloodbath.

FIFY.

I do not envy Mr. Crane at this juncture. you have had a decade of success, and the train is slowly coming to a stop.

AI says - The Houston Astros built their dynasty through pioneering analytical departments, developing a deep pool of homegrown talent, and strategic trades and free-agent acquisitions to supplement their core. Under owner Jim Crane, they transitioned from a historically mediocre franchise to a dominant force in MLB by embracing sabermetrics to evaluate and develop players, optimize performance, and build a sustainable winning organization. This combination of innovation, player development, and smart roster management led to their first World Series title in 2017 and subsequent appearances in the ALCS and World Series through the mid-2020.

I think it's time to start over and rebuild. It's time to embrace the cutting edge again. It will be painful for a few years, but we don't have the $$$ a NYY or LAD has.

Looking back at my post it could definitely been read that way.

If this roster is so bad that it needs to be blown up why would you expect a good haul of young talent in return?

Apparently Sanchez sucks at all it took was Gusto to get him
Walker is old and washed
Diaz is a lazy bad defensive catcher with no plate discipline

Why would they get anything close to a good haul for those guys?

True... wish MLB would allow the trading of draft picks.

I mean… Brock Osweiler got an insane deal for doing nothing. It's possible there are some GMs that don't make the best decisions (Josh fields for Yordan)

Yordan, Pena and HB would (should) bring in a nice amount of young talent. Parades potentially as well. Those are the players that we'd need to trade in a complete (and serious) rebuild. The ones you listed may bring in some lesser prospects, but in a complete rebuild you'd be looking to get what you can get.

Yep, and that is something I would support IF we had any trust in the organization to ace the drafts and trade picks. Dana did really well in Atlanta, but I'm not sold at all on his work in Houston.

Pena and Yordan are done.

Whatever else went on this season. The lack of hitting. Framber. Joe. All the rest. It will forever be known as the season of injuries. This team just could not overcome the massive number of games lost to its best players.

Nor could they overcome an abject inability to hit with RISP.

so Pena is going to finish with 125 games played in his age 27 season

he returned to the lineup on August 1st...

and proceeded to miss another 10 games afterwards

After 136 his rookie season he's played 150 and 157 the last two seasons. Most of the time he's missed this season was from a fractured rib from a HBP, and the 27 games (+Joe scheduled off days) from that were within what you'd expect. That puts him at 152+.

I lean towards trusting him on whether or not he can go. He hasn't shown any lollygagger or abnormally brittle tendencies that I've noticed.

If the Rangers win today and we win our next 2, we will definitely have 2 chances from other games to get in with a win on Sunday (could be rooting for BOS or DET at that point). Just win baby

This would be so dumb. Just setting the team up to start in the hole next year by injuring our ace on a hopeless effort to get knocked out on the wild card round at best. I really hope Joe isn't that stupid.

Yeah, you don't risk elbow discomfort while not even controlling your own fate.

He'd then be out for the WC too unless we had discussions with him about doing it again. Hunter has been the best and most reliable player on the team this season (6.1 bWAR).

Unless the rest of the team can get us there he's done enough. I'd be fine seeing if Framber can go again, with the understanding we'd yank him at the first sign of trouble.

I would assume that it'd be limited to an inning in place of his normal BP side session.

The Tigers are pitching Skubal on regular rest Sunday.

If they win the first 2, they will have clinched the playoffs, but could win the division with a win on Sunday. Do they pitch Skubal trying to win the division and get home field (and not have him available on full rest for the WC round)?
Ag_07
How long do you want to ignore this user?
If HB is available and you need him then you use him.
