Why do we have a pitcher batting in the lineup?

Should the last HBP (where he threw the bat) should have been a strike? I get that intent is important and some people bring the bat through the zone when trying to get out of the way of a ball.....but he definitely looked like he was intending and starting a swing when the pitch was thrown, and that swing kept going....

Things ebb and flow. The team is sometimes good and sometimes sucks. You just want to be good more than you are bad. The pendulum will swing back the other way soon enough.

And sometimes, it rains. That's baseball.

It's like some on this thread have never read this thread, lol.
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

He was hit five times in that series and I believe three of the HBPs came from the same pitcher. I would be pissed, too.

Fine... Be pissed. But throw your helmet out there or just charge the mound like everyone else, no need to hurl the lumber.

They suspending the pitchers who kept drilling him?

Although to be fair, they are MiL pitchers and he was damn near standing on the plate for a lot of that.

While I agree with your overall sentiment, I can't think of the last time a good team lost games 14-1, 7-0, 12-0, and 10-0 in a week and looked so completely and utterly overmatched.

Watching our offense swing at everything that is thrown is starting to make me feel like I'm watching James Harden play his BS brand of offense. it's my hometown team, but it's getting hard to root for the same miserable idea of offensive strategy night after night.

Chas better be playing long toss by the 2nd inning.

With how this season has gone the offense might explode against Skubal today.

Seems like the offense has been reverting back to some of last year's overreliance on hitting homers especially with 2 strikes.

The good news is this likely means the Mariners won't even activate him until after rosters expand.

Bingo. These guys (as a team) are making the same mistakes over and over and over. Running the bases like little leaguers, swinging at pitches way outside the strike zone, swinging at the first pitch, regardless of where it is thrown, etc. Over and over. If it were just one guy like Yainer doing it, you could conclude that maybe he just is bad at recognizing pitches. But it is damn near the whole team making the same kinds of mistakes. At some point, we have to consider whether it is possible that they are not being prepared well to hit against the pitchers we are seeing. That our gameplans (particularly against ****ty pitchers) are just not very good. And eventually we have to look at who it is that is responsible for those game plans and hitting approaches and ask if maybe they have just started phoning it in like the hitters appear to be approaching their at bats?

I know the response will be that we don't have the hitters from the 2017, 2019, or 2022 rosters here and these are the same coaches who made those teams shine. But maybe those hitters were just that good, and without them, the coaches' inadequacies are showing through. Maybe hitters get better when they leave and worse when they come here for a reason.

I am ready to find out the answer once and for all. We can't get rid of the hitters, so lets try some new coaches.

They are over-reliant on trying to pull everything, including the pitches 6" into the opposite batter's box. When we go oppo we get hits. When we are patient, we increase pitch counts, get better pitches to hit, and get to the BP sooner. Not to mention it gives our pitchers time to recover between innings. So what do we do? Swing at the first pitch, stack multiple single digit pitch innings into every game, try to pull everything, and end up wearing out the opponent's shortstop with ground balls.

I've watched plenty of baseball and a team with a 2-4 record and a -28 run differential over a week during a close division race in Mid-August would alarm just about anyone.

The good times of last season's 2-and-out home series against the eventual AL Division Series participants are long gone.

I will agree with you there. It's hard to support the current plate approach.

Unfortunately, those games were 1-0 (STL), 2-0 (PIT), 2-0 (PIT).

The 05 WS gets a bad rap because they lost in 4, but that really doesn't match how the games were. They were all close, with the last 3 decided in extra or 8th or later innings. Not reaching for a moral victory, but it wasn't that they totally no showed.

Those guys were spent after Pujols turned Brad Lidge into his red headed stepson.

I went to game 3. That team was playing a well rested White Sox team after they left their soul in the NLCS.

Unfortunately, there were also some absolutely putrid offenses over the following 10 years that did not accomplish this "amazing" lowlight.

Think about that. All those awful teams in the early 2010s and none of them ever did this.
