Question for the stat heads: Has a team every made the playoffs while not scoring a run in its last 35 games?

So do we have to go through another few weeks of people pointing out how our season hitting stats are fine or can we go ahead and fire the hitting coaches and move on? No reason for our pitching coaches to be so good and let them down by hanging on to hitting coaches responsible for a team that is this bad.

You haven't heard???

Hitting coaches don't really do anything and that's just an online myth that Texags buys into…

…Texags and literally every level of baseball.

It's hilarious there's still people that claim I said this. Reading comprehension must be really hard for some of you

I didn't think it was you. There are several on here who have, though.

I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

That would be so 2025 Astros- busted ankle or hammy trying to steal in a rehab game.

If Cintron and Snitker are anywhere near this club in 2026, I may actually take up golf like I've said for years now.

I'd take up golf, but the Astros already taught me how to cuss in the late 70s, so what would be the point?

I think the offense will break out a little bit today. Just a gut feeling

And by breakout I mean, 5+ runs

Pretty much already knew rbis but from Ari Alexander

Here's the photo of the replay as Yainer Diaz slid home.
Diaz was called out.

The call was confirmed to be out by the replay.

The Astros are #2 in MLB in overturn %.

14-22 since the Dodgers series

That is a .388 win percentage

That would be 63-99 over a full season

There was a much better video of it from another angle showing Diaz touching the plate while the glove missed him.

I'm still so irritated by the 3-2 breaking ball by Ort. It was so non competitive.

Well, I would tell you to get over it, but I'm still fuming over Hinch pulling Greinke in 2019…

CFM on the mound for the Tigers today. Since his arrival in Detroit, he's thrown 16 1/3 innings, 13 hits, 7 ER, striking out 21. His last start he went 6 shutout against the Twins scattering 2 hits. I want to say the offense breaks out in a day game and we get a really good start from Framber. Astros win 8-2

The second they picked him up, I grabbed him in Fantasy Baseball. he is free money on a good team.

while I've been one of the few here remaining calm and stressing patience with this team I wouldn't be opposed to letting Cintron go at this point and just shaking things up and giving the team a fresh, new voice in the clubhouse when it comes to preparing for the opposing teams pitchers. Especially with Yordan on the cusp of returning. It is time to lock in.

I'll say it again, just get in the playoffs and get hot, and this team is capable of making a deep run. We all know how Carlos and Altuve lock in come playoff time.

Alonzo Treadwell seems to be figuring things out. No surprise it took some time - he was coming off an injury and the Astros were making a lot of tweaks on him.

Gameday: RoughRiders 7, Hooks 4 Final Score (08/19/2025)

4 innings pitched. 10 strikeouts. No walks. The one earned run was a solo home run.

20 total strikeouts in 11 innings since being called up to Corpus.

The fact that the hitting coaches are still employed shows that Espada isn't a serious manager. He'd rather hire his friends than do his job.

True…I misspoke: I'll rephrase. He'd rather keep his friends employed than do his job.

Yeah, shame on Joe for keeping the hitting coach around after the team was top 5 in MLB runs per game, top 3 in MLB in hits, struck out at the third lowest rate, and was top 5 in on-base percentage the year before he took over as manager.

What about 2024? Top ten in MLB in runs per game, third in total hits, struck out at the third lowest rate, top 7 in on base percentage and had the 8th best slugging percentage in baseball.

Recency bias is a real thing. Am I saying he's been good this year? No. But the injuries combined with poor lineup construction (which has a lot to do with guys missing) has way more to do with the offensive struggles IMO.

Blame the hitting coach as much as you want, but remember a good chunk of the lineup for the majority of the season had replacement level players or worse. There's nothing you can do about that.

That said, I wouldn't be opposed to a change this offseason. It's important to look at the big picture though.

My reaction after checking last night's score thinking we'd get at least one run across.

Lunhow didn't make many bad player calls. But not resigning CFM was one of them. No one could have ever guessed he would have lasted as long as he has.

Call me crazy but I'd keep Cintron and the hitting coaches if it meant I got a complete overhaul of the athletic training staff and team docs

The last week has been bad. How bad? Our team OPS is .464. 10 runs in 6 games, 4 total XBH. One double in 6 games. We have more GiDP than XBH. That's got to be a record for a week.

And because we aren't getting on base, or when we do it's singles , no running is allowed. Only 5 SB in 14 games. Hell, we have seen teams steal 5 in a game against us.

Short version? We need someone to hit something besides a single. Having to get 3 hits in a row to score a run over and over again just isn't going to work.

Last time the team got shutout 3 straight times was July 14,18,19 in 1985 - 40 years and a month ago.
It was before and after the All-Star break, which is why the dates are weird.
Part of a streak where they lost 6 straight and 15 out of 18 to go from 41-40 to 44-54 and fall out of contention.
Even worse, they went FORTY TWO STRAIGHT INNINGS without a run.

The game before, thy got crushed 10-1 by the Mets. They scored 1 run in the second inning, then were scoreless for the final seven.

The game before the All-Star break, they got shut out by Dwight Gooden, who improved to 13-3 with a 1.68 ERA. He went 11-1 in the second half of the season. That was 1-0, Knepper took the loss. 16 straight innings with no runs.

After the All-Star break, they lost 3-0 to the Expos and then 4-0 to the Expos. In those three shutouts, the team combined for 18 hits, 2 walks, and 6 errors. That's 34 straight innings with no runs.

They didn't get a run until the 9th inning of the game after the last shutout. Which was a 6-1 loss to the Expos. Jerry Mumphrey had an RBI single with two outs in the 9th to keep it from being 4 straight shutouts.

Remember that 2 week period before the crap home stand leading up to the All Star break where we were legitimately playing the best baseball in the league with a bunch of AAAA position players and a pitching staff over achieving. Those were fun times

We're now running out of games to get "hot". Hope it happens soon

So what does that mean... He's on the roster or they're resetting the clock?
