Whatever the official story, Framber drilled the 3rd string catcher on purpose for all the world to see and nothing happened other than Joe making Salazar apologize to Framber for angering him.

At least Dusty had his angry old man moments.

Crane doesn't bring back Correa if he thought the clubhouse was in good shape, imo

Yes there was fan favorite aspect but still

Crane's not afraid to act, not saying all his moves have been the right ones, but the team is listless, at some point that falls on the manager

Crane firing a manager in the midst of a playoff chase would be very much on brand.

Crane fired a GM after winning a world series. Np reason he can't fire a manager for missing the playoffs.

As I've gotten older, I've been better about not letting losses from my teams ruin my attitude and mindset for too long into the evening.

Not gonna lie, this one has made me irritable to the point that I need to step away and not watch a few games.

Altuve needs to bat 9th and we need to stop pinch hitting for Suarez bc one lefty comes out of the pen. I get he can't hit lefties but Cam can't either. With Suarez you waste the one AB not all the other ones after.

Fire Joe Espada

Player/Manager Carlos Correa

DFA Framber Valdez but first Cesar gets to throw a couple at you

Christian Walker you are going to the cage and only come back when you can hit fastballs again

Abreu you're back to the 8th

Let's see, um, Bryan King, congrats, battlefield promotion, you're now the closer

Jake you're moving up in the order and Altuve you're moving down

You ready, Isaac?

Rose was the last player / manager, 84-86
Joe Torre started his managerial career as player / manager of the Mets.
Tris Speaker was player / manager for like 23 years.

I think Correa could do it. He could do it several years, he's only 30. Your bench coach in that situation is crucial. You get tossed or get hurt, that's a problem. Ejected, it's one game. Hurt, that's another story.

I was thinking around the league, who else could do it? Machete would have been a good one. Yadier Molina could, maybe Justin Turner as well.

The Hispanic guys who are fully bilingual like Correa or Machete from Puerto Rico would do better communicating with their team, IMHO.

Missed watching the game ( thank goodness).

What inning was it that Altuve caught Blum's ire?

I want to see if I can catch it on one of the re-airs.

I personally think missing the playoffs should be the end of the Espada tenure.

You got swept out of the wild card this year and you've had the division lead for the whole season only to (in this scenario) lose it with 2 weeks left.

And I think even if they do make the playoffs… There needs to be some changes within the staff (assistants gone, training staff gone) We can't just roll out the same coaching staff and roster next year and expect different results.

I have not been able to invest much time to watching the Astros, lately, and it sounds like that's just fine

Altuve was Manfred-man on second. Caratini led off by hitting a grounder to the right side. Altuve took off for third at 2/3 speed while watching the play over his shoulder. Vlad gobbled up the ball and fired to third, and caught Altuve with his pants down. It was an inexcusable lack of effort on Altuve's part.

Not to mention he had a lead of about 3' off 2nd in that situation.

Then him just going the routines in the bottom of the 10th on vladdy's chopper allowed him to beat it out.

The Rangers are pretty much doing what we did at the end of June and early July. A bunch of their big hitters are injured and they are finding production from unknown guys.

They hovered around .500 long enough to where now a hot streak could get them into the playoffs.

Went to bed early thinking we had that one in the bag. What a ****ty result to wake up to, yet somehow I'm not surprised.

After sleeping on it, I'm still pissed.

The Astros took their lead in the division, set it on fire, and made the division race into a dog fight.

With all this talent, it shouldn't be this way.

But it is, and here we are.

We have 17 games left. Regardless of how bad we've played we are still leading the division and still have a shot to win it.
The upcoming series against Arlington and Seattle are looming large. The Astros better have whatever playoff magic left in them ready to go. They need to win both series, and if they don't and they founder, they are done.

That's the bottom line. Gotta win some games at this point.

I have to say, the way this team has managed to **** the bed the last 9 weeks, the sheets are looking like a monochromatic Jackson Pollack painting.

They have managed to lose just about every way imaginable.

What talent?

As an opponent...

After Yordan does anyone in this lineup scare anyone? No.
After Hunter does anyone in this rotation scare you? No.
After Abreu does in anyone in this BP scare you? No.

I think that's where everyone is going wrong. This team is just not that talented.

They weren't in June when they were way overachieving and they're not now.

Just because they're playing like run over dog **** doesn't mean they aren't talented…

thank goodness for interleague play

the Astros (78-67) are:

15-15 vs. the East
15-15 vs. the Central
19-21 vs. the West

but 29-16 vs. the national league
W
How long do you want to ignore this user?
so with Garcia's injury...the disastrous 6-man rotation should finally be gone

it was an epic failure in 2025

with off days on the 18th and 22nd should go to a 4-man rotation

That's the issue. We have the talent but they are vastly underperforming

- Walker and Altuve should scare you but they don't now.
- Diaz has regressed
- Correa has been good but his power
- Framber should scare you but he's mentally broken

It's a lineup with 4 previous silver sluggers, guys who have won recent postseason MVPs, all stars and a rotation with 2 top starters who were at one point top 5 cy young candidates

You're reading the back of the baseball card. That was all in the past. Things change. Players age and eventually regress.

I'm really hoping this team looks alot different next season. Starting with a complete new manager/coaching staff. Possibly even a new GM. We need to start the rebuild instead of dying this slow death.

We'll get into the "details" part of that discussion on the offseason thread eventually. However, what are our bigest trade pieces right now? Yordan, HB, and Pena. How much would they net us in trade? Enough to re-stock and reload with youth?

Tigers looking too good late in the season. Finding themselves in trouble….

I don't think they aren't talented.

I think they're not THAT talented and certainly not as talented as we think they are.

At this point in the season you are what your record says and turns out they're a slightly above average team capable of going on hit streaks but not built for any long term success.

And we can say they should be this or should be that but reality is they are who they are. It's super cliche but that's where I'm at.

IMO, Crane has 2 options this offseason:

(1) Fire Espada and overhaul the entire staff that's in the dugout, then spend on pitching.
(2) Start over.

Dusty drove us all insane, but he got everything he could out of the players on the roster. Dude knew how to manage, and it shows. Status quo will result in another season like this.

#2 includes #1 (except for the spend on pitching part). A "start over" IMO includes a new manager and coaching staff.
