Astros are 1-9 in Framber's last 10 starts and he gave up at least 4 runs in each of the 9 losses

Plenty blame to go around for the end of this season, historic number of injuries, poor offense, but Framber melting down in the 2nd half of the season is a major factor

Framber has got to go. I really wanted him gone last year but knew it would be tough with the guys we still had on the shelf.

Could have brought in quite a haul if we traded him this year at the deadline. Oh well.

I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but Joe isn't going anywhere. After what he pulled the team through last year and all the injuries we've been through this year, I would consider him a lock for a third year.
if that's the case, Dana might as well blow it up this off-season and have a fire sale, because we aren't winning a participation trophy let alone a world series trophy with Joe driving the ship.

If Framber just pitched at 80% of his normal level we would be ahead by 2+ games

I've never been so happy to see a player leave in free agency.

They should have benched his ass after the Salazar incident. I don't give a sheet about the playoff race argument crap. The dude is a head case and should have been dealt with a long time ago. A lot of us saw this coming a few years ago.

Should've traded Framber's ass at the deadline. Huge f'n mistake

Last year after his meltdown game, I said something to the effect of "that dude is a head case, and the Astros need to trade his ass." Several posters on here said "oh, it's only one game, you don't get rid of an ace caliber pitcher for that."

The chickens have come home to roost.

They don't have to trade him. I'm afraid they give him a QO, and nobody else wants his ass, and we're stuck with that piece of crap. You don't cross up a catcher.

The way he did Salazar… most teams put him on par with Bauer, would be my estimation.

You do what you should have done before the season and at the deadline... Trade him immediately

You sign him and then find somebody desperate for pitching after their ace goes down for TJ in spring training and get a few of their best prospects to help kick start the rebuild.

So, correct me if I'm wrong but I seem to have noticed something. Prior to the Framber meltdown with Salazar, the TV crew was always talking about how Framber was a jovial kind of guy and everything. But afterwards they seem to have backed off from that. Even Julia seems to have stepped back a bit from her usual joking back and forth with him. It's almost as if they have noticed what we have that the dude is a head case.

usually when you assault a coworker, I assume that would nix a lot of the joviality from the team...

As disappointed as we all are, we are far from out of this thing, and in many years past we'd have killed for the chance just to be in this spot the last week. I dont think any of us expect a long playoff run even if we do make it, but maybe, just maybe we happen to hit a hot streak just at the right time. Unlikely, I know, but dammit I'm not ready to completely give up on this season.

What needs to happen to get in? If we win who do we need to lose?

6-1 in the last 7 guarantees the last wildcard

5-2 almost does if the Tigers-Guardians and Tigers-Red Sox series break the right way
AggieJ2002
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Tigers have another with the Braves (which they have lost 2 in a row to) and they follow that up with Cleveland and Boston (both of whom are also fighting for the playoffs). They've got to be getting nervous about making the playoffs and that would be a much bigger collapse than the Astros.

I believe if the Astros go 4-3 in the last 7 we still have a decent shot

The A's are more likely to sweep them than the Astros getting hot.

In the face of the season falling apart here late and after attending a game in which neither of my kids was looking when they showed us on the big screen for 2 seconds, I'd like to offer you the chance to break out of your melancholy and help me laud the efforts of one of our very own, the epitome of the never-give-up attitude that makes us great.

PROSPERDICK

When Jeremy Pena launched his grand slam last night, Ol Prospy notched his FIRST EARNED Astros Bingo square of the season beyond the free square. Sure, it took him until Game 155 to get it, but that's mostly Yordan Alvarez's fault. The point is that the Big Dick is no longer all alone in last place with 1 square, he's now tied for last with 2 squares. Three cheers!

Also picking up the valuable Pena square were:

RED AG 98
Chief Elko
Marvin
astroaggie13
aftershock
Booma94
Mathguy64
Socrates

Meanwhile, 8 other players saw their max total dip by 1 as the 8+ win streak became impossible.

We now have a FOUR-WAY TIE for 1st entering the last week of the season. Which I guess means ntouch has to carve the tumbler into four pieces? I'm not sure how that works. Anyway here's the updated standings. The number after the slash is what your max total score is right now, although a lot of those categories are becoming extremely unlikely.

GOAT REPORT 9-20-25

With two hits night, Altuve reached 150 for the season. It's his 12th season with at least 150 hits, one behind Biggio for the Astro record of 13 seasons.
If he does it a few more times he's going to be in some extreme company.

The unreachable all-time record for most seasons with 150+ hits is 18, held jointly by Pete Rose, Tris Speaker, and Ty Cobb.
Second place is 17: Derek Jeter and Hank Aaaron
Third place at 16 is Honus Wagner at 16
Fourth place at 15 is a tie between Cal Ripken Jr., Stan Musial, and Eddie Collins

Latest Fangraphs has Astros with 64.7% chance of making the playoffs. Cleveland is the only one lower at 61%.

We need to win tonight to keep pace.

Our backs are against the wall. It's a must-win. There's no room for error. Use whatever analogy or trite phrase you want.

I've thought Seattle and Cleveland wouldn't be able to keep up these super hot streaks. They have. I'm surprised.

We had all hoped for at least 4-2 against the Rangers and Mariners. If we win tonight, we will have achieved that. We are still in a great position.

Any of the 7 teams at the top could go cold in the last two series of the year. Look how the Royals have pounded the Jays. Look how the Tigers have all but collapsed. Plus, we will hopefully get Yordan back for the last game against the Angels.

If we get to 89 wins (win today, then 4-2 against Angels and As), I think we get in. I'm not giving up on these guys. A lot can still happen.

I know nobody is happy with Walker but he has a lot to be unhappy about. He's done a full on Tucker in September. It's easily his worst month of the season and given how he played in April and May that's saying something. His season fWAR is now -0.2. He's officially 2023 Abreu 2.0.

We have to cut bait with him this off season. Can't afford another 2024 abrue. Let's Issac or Victor man first and figure the rest out

Yep. If we don't win tonight I'm pretty much out of hope. Need to go 5-2 the rest of the way with a win tonight

It just depends on how much Crane is willing to pay to make him tradable. That contract and his production are a bad combination.

For 2 years? I bet you have to kick in $20MM. Maybe $25MM. And only Crane can make that call.

The good news is I think they have a replacement already here in Paredes and that solves a number of problems.

They could have a regular 2026 lineup of:

1B Paredes
2B Altuve
SS Peña
3B Correa
RF Smith/Sanchez (L/R matchups)
CF Meyers
LF Cole/Dezenzo(L/R) matchups
C Diaz/???
DH Yordan

I want to see Cam make forward progress next year. He really regressed the last 1/3 of the season. Sanchez did too once he came here. I guess we will be finding out just how much hitting coaches actually do next season.

It's not a full answer but his OPS relative to the league with RISP is 98. With men on its 100. He's been league average there.
