Likelihood seems high that Altuve and Paredes end up covering 2B and LF.

You'll get payroll relief when Framber walks.

They really need to consider trading Yordan. Altuve needs to DH fulltime until he retires and Yordan prevents that and he is far too injury prone for a man in his 20s. Besides, he's really the only player on the team with any significant trade value.

And as stated multiple times by others on this thread, they should try their damnedest to trade away Dubon, Diaz, and Walker.

Wild probably over reaction.

I'd be open to listening to offers for Pena and Yordan. If you can get solid solid packages for one or maybe both I think that might be the route to go. If not both take the best package for one of them.

Never thought I'd say those words but here we are.

I also move Walker no matter what. Even if you get basically nothing back besides the roster spot and salary relief.

Unless you get a crazy offer for a Yordan coming off an injury plagued year then you wait

No sense in selling one of your top 2 players for less

And so goes the Astros firing a manager every year before realizing the window has closed. Imagine signing either Bregman or Tucker. Then you'd be like the Red Sox or the Cubs. Gee, what do they have in common?

Altuve's natural position at this point is DH, but Yordan is transcendent when healthy and was born to DH.

Playing Altuve in the field is coming close to completely offsetting what he brings to the table at the plate as far as WAR. I'm not sure how we fix that other than tank and let the GOAT do his thing at 2b.

I think it's time to blow it up and get what we can for what talent we have.

We've already conceded we can't sign superstars to traditional long term contracts. Correa has by far the richest deal ever for someone playing for the Astros ($200 million), and Minnesota had to ink it and pay for most of it before we swooped in to give them debt relief.

I'd say both Pena and HB have as much if not more trade value. Yordan's injury issues could give other teams pause. In a complete rebuild scenario, all 3 of them would need to go.

I don't think he has to full time DH but he needs to get significant time there. This happens with all great players, they become old and meh. You can easily fade his deficiencies if your team around him is good enough.

I'm normally the blow it up guy but I don't buy that it is completely necessary. We had an absolute crap ton of injuries that you just can't plan for. I'd like to make one trade of a guy with big value (Pena or Yordan), grab a free agent pitcher, grab a lefty utility bat and see what we can do. Using Pena as an example, maybe you can trade with Detroit to get Raynor and Briceno. That's a significant boost to the farm and Briceno may be able to take over 1B by end of 2027.

Yordan played 19 games between his hand injury and ankle injury

the Astros went 10-9 in those games

How fitting that our season is coming down to not being able to beat below .500 teams… our kryptonite all season.

We had those 2 players last year and Sleepy Joe still got swept in the first round. He's not a serious manager.

Thanks for the memories Joe. Bring in someone that will hold these guys accountable.

So glad I haven't stayed up to watch any of these West coast games.

If you're keeping Altuve and think he has to DH from now on, then Yordan has to go. He can be some other team's frustration for 100+ games a year.

Trading Brown or Pena is nuts.

Christian Walker got his bingo square with HR #25 last night.

Those scoring a point were:

Johnsy3
tjack16
Socrates
1836er
Booma94
Mr Bond
ntouch
GigemMortis

I closed off somebody going 20/20 since Pena was the only one with a chance and he's hurt.

Realistic squares still left in play:
Miss/make the playoffs
Montero <> 4.50 ERA - currently at 4.58

Unrealistic squares still left in play
Tucker 25 HR (has 22)
Judge 55 HR (has 52)
Walker 90 RBI (has 86)

You sure these aren't reversed? All the Unrealistic seem far more probable than the Realistic.

Still thinking about last night, and I'm still pissed.

Why do you pitch to Trout at all? He's the only real dangerous threat in the lineup. And he hit two bombs off you, including the game winner. Unintentionally intentionally walk him. Just stupid.

Just burn it down and start over. We've done it before and we can do it again.

The oft injured Astros season ended by an oft injured slugger. Baseball loves irony.

Pena and Brown are gone in 2 and 3 years respectively. They're our best players absent a healthy Yordan, but if we don't think our team is good enough they're pretty much what we have to trade to reset and tank.

Yordan too, but he needs a full season first. His trade value has never been lower than right now. There's a pretty good chance that Peña's will never be higher than right now.

I don't think Crane has it in him to tank, but unfortunately he doesn't have the wallet to buy his way to a permanently cracked window.

We'll probably not be so hampered by injuries next season and the hitting will improve, but I expect a massive regression in pitching (the number of no names who gave us quality or adequate innings was ridiculous), especially with Framber and his close to 200 innings gone. We'll need to backfill his slot (by trade and/or FA as you say) but it will be with someone cheaper and not as good unless we luck out.

They'll give McCullers another 10-15 starts since they're paying him regardless, so we've got that going for us.

Boone ejected again today for arguing balls and strikes with Judge at the plate. As much as we bag on Boone, at least Judge knows Boone is going to back him.

I'm assuming Joe isn't coming back.

Who do we get? I'm assuming it will be someone unknown. I can't imagine it would be someone currently coaching.

Just get a retread manager, most important thing is they've been in the seat before

Mathguy64

Yeah no. I don't want a retread like Ausmus. I fear Ausmus.

By no means am I advocating for him, but I'm curious when the perspective on him shifted overall. He was a respected player (good defense, terrible offense) for us and I remember fans thinking he'd be a good manager some day, but definitely has a negative fan perspective as a coach.

He's definitely in the retread no thanks category to me (but I wanted Espada, so I'm an idiot)
