Oh well. Gonna palette cleanse with some Padres Dodgers. I'm thoroughly enjoying the Dodgers not being in first place on August 15th with that payroll.

This team is the type of team that is meant to torment the fans.

This is the type of team... that you get as a curse.

I'm a fan of Mike Maddux. I think he's a good pitching coach. The rest of them? Gotta go. Two years in a row of just ***** The game management hasn't been good. Getting what they need to out of players hasn't been good. Just need new voices and direction.

Remember when we were tied with Seattle for the last playoff spot?

Or a half game back of the Yankees with a chance to beat them and jump ahead of them? That was NINE DAYS AGO.

I think it's safe to say at this point that CY pretty much botched the roster construction this season. Granted, there were restraints early on to stay under the CBT, but overall I think a lot of moves made this season are questionable. Burger being sent to AAA for only hitting around .210 but Pederson remaining in the lineup until his injury hitting about .125. Trying to address our lack of offense by trading for more pitching. Not getting a real closer but instead a handful of JAGs and hoping to cobble something together. Not saying I've lost confidence in CY or that he should be fired, but I do think they need to take a hard, hard look at this roster in the off-season and potentially make some significant changes.

I'll also say this, and this is JUST my opinion, but I don't think the way Seager goes about his business is the kind of thing you want young players seeing and emulating. I've heard it said that he doesn't take BP, at least not on a regular basis. Sits on the bench and stares at his iPad. Great hitter, great shortstop, but seems very focused on HIS game and not necessarily THE game. It sure felt more like a real "team" in '23, with Janko and Hedges helping keep everyone really engaged with what was happening on the field. This season I see a lot of guys just doing their own thing. Maybe it's just me - but I think it's worth looking into.

Tend to agree on Seager. He was the first one to come to mind when Pillar said this a few weeks ago

CY is a smart guy. He will fix this. The fact is that the manager is a lame duck and the guys in the dugout aren't being sold on being a team, but a collection of individuals. Pillar was dead on about the problem hereand it shows up in lack of clutch hitting and now in a lack of clutch pitching of late, mostly the bullpen. But I have CY will fix it for next season. But I won't be surprised if 2026 is either our last big season to go after a title or we start the rebuild, as the farm system has nothing of major note.

Semien and Seager both having down years didn't help, but they are here for the long term and obviously still important to this team. I thought Langford would take a bigger step up this season. Hopefully he will next year. Carter is very talented. Just needs to stay healthy. Smith is a solid player.,

The rest of the group needs a serious look this offseason. Heim and Garcia are likely done here. Burger and Pederson did not pan out, although I think over a full, healthy season Burger still could be ok. Then there is Josh Jung. He has taken a big step backwards. Not sure what you do there.

I don't blame CY when it comes to the offseason moves. I thought the moves he made last offseason were great. I don't think anyone would have expected most of the roster to have career low seasons in back to back years. He did his job. The guys he acquired did not. My biggest issue is the moves he made in before the trade deadline. It's not a big deal if the plan is still to go over the tax next year. But I gotta feeling we will try to stay under. Hope I'm wrong and we make some massive moves. Kyle Tucker please!
rbtexan

Disagree on the hitters he acquired, and here's why.

I hate…absolutely loathe…the analytic notion that signing player X to be a regular in the lineup makes sense when his OBP/WAR (or whatever bullcrap metric they want to use) is high against one arm-side pitching and horrendous against the other. You're basically saying OK, Joc Pederson, go hit those righties, but you're nothing more than a doorstop against lefties.

I hate platoon DH/1B/OF, whatever. Get out there and freaking rake. If Evan Carter can't figure out LHP, make him the 4th OF. Get guys who can hit and don't completely fall to pieces when a relief pitcher comes in throwing from the opposite side.

Almost every player hits one side better than the other, I understand that. But a lot of these guys the Rangers have brought in are decent against one side and utterly suck against the other. JMO

My fear is CY let his competitiveness and admiration for Bochy's career cloud his vision at the deadline. For two years in a row. I understand wanting to see if the guys on the roster play up to their career stats, but getting approval to go over the CBT when Davis very much wanted to stay under was a horrible decision. The difference between staying under and going over is Merrill Kelly. And if two months of Merrill Kelly and no playoff appearance causes the team to not be a player on the free agent market this offseason, it's a fireable offense.

What I am curious about is if Pederson, Garcia and Heim can be put on waivers first. And then if someone picks them up does the rest of their salary fall off the team's CBT total. Add Gray and Mahle, if he comes back. Anyone with a sizable salary and especially those coming off the books this offseason.

Agreed. Had no problem with the offseason moves, although I thought we should have looked harder for a closer. Trade deadline? We really needed another bat......or two.

I know we just took another ugly loss, but I don't think we're done yet. I think these guys have another run in them.

We are not in a position to criticize Seager. 2X WS MVP, HOF candidate. These are pro athletes, most of which don't need a teammate to help with motivation. They'll ask Seager for help if they want to. I could see Carter needing some love being so young, but that's it.

CY made some bad moves. Most of them were reasonable and can be defended. It happens.

Completely agree on CY. I do think this season is effectively over.

I took exception with the Pederson signing for the amount the posted. But, if it fixed A problem and filled a gap, fine.

The problem I had with the off-season hitting decisions was that they identified a problem... the team couldn't hit 4S FBs. So, they got Burger and Pederson. Two guys that hit 4S FBs. The problem is the patched a hole with a gap. Burger doesn't hit off-speed.

Situationally, they improved, but a 162 game isn't daily situational decisions, it is overall approach.

They didn't fix the approach. They reacted to fix an issue without consideration overall. Which is part of your point.
