What a maddening team.

They're going to make me buy the Playoff package, aren't they...

Sweeping Cleveland is pretty amazing. Not one of us thought that was possible.

30 games remaining, need to win 2 out of 3 in all our series for the rest of the season. I think 86-76 might get us there.

I said 87 over a month ago, so I'll stick with that.
94chem,
That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough

Cal Raleigh hit his 48th and 49th HRs today. Game is still in the 4th inning. Anybody else think his HR production is a little sus? He has 15 more HRs than last season and in 26 fewer games.

Cleveland fans probably feeling absolutely gutted: L5

Climbed back into the mix w/out players and then rolled over.

Personally... big Red Sox fan today. I'm looking at the Yankees. It'd be glorious for them to miss the playoffs.

I'll take either Sea or NYY, but I'd kinda like to see the Mariners pass Houston.

Especially given the home field where he plays half his games.

He switched to the torpedo bat this year (batting lefty), which based on his results of say he's really benefitted from the change in barrel position. Also if you go and watch his homers, it's a bunch of laser beam line drives and we'll hit fly balls that just get out. He's just really barreling the ball up and hitting it well. In my opinion how batted ball profile doesn't look roider to me, so not sure what to be suspicious of here. He just looks like a guy maximizing what he's got this year.

Next up:
COL @ HOU
BOS @ BAL
WAS @ NYY
SDP @ SEA
KCR @ CWS
LAAA @ TEX

We could really use another sweep and the LAAA are as good an option as any in the AL to get swept. Diff -87

Colorado is -349. They have 94 Ls

The torpedo bats were nothing more than the "latest youth bat hype" to come out that everyone had to have... IMO.

I get the hype, but it isn't a cricket bat. Length, diameter, weight. Play around all you want.

Other than possibly the Seattle series, that looks like a lot of wins for contending team side.
DallasAg 94

True.

But next weekend is:
Sea @ Cle
Det @ KCR
Tex @ A's

We just need to take care of business.

5-1 would be helpful.

This. Freaking. Team. I refuse to get my hopes up that they'll sneak in until they're a game up on wc3. Lost the tie breaker to everyone in front of us save Boston?

Glad we at least kept it interesting for this long. Usually a long stretch of bad baseball follows anytime we get to .500 or a few games above. Hoping we can stop that trend and go 15-5 in the next 20 games.

Good weekend. Cliche, but let's go 1-0 tomorrow. For the love of God, please deGrom, make this another easy win.

I hope we score more than 1.

We have 19 consecutive scoreless innings with a generational P going tomorrow who can go 7+ scoreless against a team with the worst run diff.

Rangers record is 39.
https://www.mlb.com/rangers/history/season-records

We are close, but likely too far off for best Team ERA (3.31 vs 3.43)

Team ERA is currently #1. SDP 3.53 is #2.

Asking too much to sweep the LAAA with SHOs?

For certain guys with certain batted ball profiles the slight move in the sweet spot can make a difference. Even if it's just a placebo effect making him confident that he's going to barrel balls, the evidence shows that he's essentially the same hitter this year (baseball savant advanced stats) that he was last year but with better results.

Not sure why you think it'd be a youth bat phenomenon, I haven't seen any aluminum bats come out that are torpedoes.

Damn. Semien and Carter done for the season. Who knows when we'll see Burger. Duran is going to get his chance to play every day down the stretch. Opportunity for Cody Freeman to show what he can do.

It was a reference about how youth sports find a new edge and then everyone has to have it. Usually it is the new bat.

Trust me I get the torpedo bat's craze. I get what the claim is and you can apply the physics anywhere.

Why am I skeptical? History. Physics.

First, the design of the torpedo bad lends itself to weaknesses as much as benefits. You just pitch the ball where he can't barrel up the ball. Seems simple. The ends "should" make poor contact because the diameter is smaller and that makes it harder to make contact.

Second... Judge and all the other Yankees who started the season with such fanfare are well behind him. Not sure if he started the season using it.

Third, there has been much reported about the drag on baseballs this season. Balls flying 2-4' shorter.

Fourth... the park he plays in. His splits in HRs is almost even despite signifant diff in PA (260 v 299) yet his BA is like .216 v .269. Last year he hit more than twice as many HRs on the road.

Does any of this mean he is cheating and doing something... maybe not... but it certainly lends itself to some scrutiny, if anyone cared.

I'm more concerned about the fact MLB owns Rawlings and has continued to jack with the baseball so that MLB can get the results it wants.

The constant gambling sponsorships and co-marketing, though... is what helps give the game integrity. Like when ARod tested positive for PEDs and MLB let him continue to play and he got the MVP.

Soft opponents for the next 3 series (Angles, Athletics, Diamondbacks), then four HARD series in a row (Astros, Brewers, Mets and Astros). We need to make hay in the next 9 games.

Was looking at this too. End with 3 very beatable opponents too… 87 is the number I think we need. 21-9. Going to be very tough. Will need more sweeps.

We all know the reality is that we just need to take care of business.

Having said that, I won't mind if we get additional help from others.

The lineup ahead:
BOS (WC1): + 1.0 <- @ BAL (4), v PIT (3), v CLE (3), I project 7-3
NYY (WC2): + 0.5 <- v WSH (3), @ CWS (4), @ Hou (3), no idea
SEA (WC3): base <- v SDP (3), @ CLE (3), @ TBR (3), I project 5-4
=
KCR (Out1): - 3.0 <- @ CWS (3), v DET (3), v LAAA (3), I project 6-3
TEX (Out2): - 4.5 <- v LAAA (3), @ A's (3), @ ARI (3), I project 7-3. Need 8-2

Then, it gets interesting.
NYY gets v TOR (3), v DET (3), @ BOS (3). The could go 3-6
TEX gets v HOU (3), v MIL (3), @ NYM (3). We could go 9-0... 0-9... And anything between

It'd be nice to pick up 2G on WC3 in the next 3 series.
