Without knowing all the details of what went on afterwards, I don't think we can say anyone handled it correctly or incorrectly.

The only thing I recall coming out about it was that it got heated between players and coaches had to step in. Maybe there was scuttlebutt about a chair being thrown.

I sincerely hope Crane doesn't just plan to maybe pick up a SP or two and run this back for another year with no other changes. We have problems way beyond the pitching, not the least of which is that we have 4 infielders (Pena, Correa, Paredes, and Walker) who are starter quality/pay and only 3 spots they can play (1B, SS, and 3B, unless Paredes is going to try to play 2B. We have two superstars whose defense and durability argue for them to be DH (Altuve and Yordan). And if you don't want Altuve playing 2B, you have nobody that is start quality at 2B. That doesn't even touch on our glaring problems with hitting approach and scouting of opposing pitchers. I sincerely hope that we don't plan to waste next year trying the same things and hoping for different results.

I also sincerely hope that we win it all next year and somebody brings up this post so I can eat a plate full of crow.

I think we will (and should) see both a trade of a veteran for young pieces and a mid tier free agent. Very similar strategically to last season and I think that's perfectly fine. I wouldn't mind being in two cheap SP with stuff that didn't match performance for our coaches (Dustin May, Cease, Woodruff).

I don't know what the trade is but our IF situation looks untenable, especially with Yordan and Jose needing the lions share of DH. CW is ideal but can't see you getting anything for him so limited long-term appeal. Paredes or Pena will never have higher value so they would be the ones getting you a Tucker package.

This is what I've been saying. We're going to go halfsies on the "rebuild" and to me that's a recipe for disaster. It should either be all in (which I see as unlikely to happen), or total rebuild.

"All in" means we're going to make some massive moves to fix the team - alot of which txags92 pointed out. Need a #2 SP, strong bullpen arm, LHH outfielder (a good one), and I would argue a catcher that doesn't swing at balls 3 feet off the plate. This would be expensive and still would rely on the stars staying healthy for a big part of the season.

I'm on team total rebuild.

I think Walker has some value to a NL team. He hits very well in the NL ballparks and if we package him with somebody like Dezenzo and keep a little bit of his salary, we should be able to get a decent piece in return, preferably LHH and either 2B or OF.

I used to think this way but now I'm more in the boat of do a Tucker deal every year for near big league guys and hit on the draft. As long as we are willing to spend we can be good in the meantime and that should help boost the farm significantly over a period of a couple years. Maybe you do Paredes this offseason and either Pena or HB next offseason. I just don't think you can do what we did before and let guys walk for a draft pick. It takes too long for picks to produce.

I am ok if we don't go total rebuild, but we can't just ride with the offense we had this year. We need to get the right pieces on the field and the right pieces in the lineup. Right now I feel like we are playing scrabble and have nothing but consonants to somehow try to make a word out of.

If Crane is willing to spend to get the right pieces in here, then I'm all for it. It will also take creativity on Dana's part to target the right pieces, and of course you need willing trade partners. It can be done, but it starts with Crane opening the bank book.

Framber got to make his next start. That's a sign it was handled poorly. By Joe? By Dana? By Crane? Someone made the decision that Framber could assault his teammate and play baseball the next day. For him that's his next start.

Someone made that call. IMHO that was the wrong call. He should have been suspended from the team for his action. Whatever else was going on down the stretch (guys exhausted, playing through injuries because no one else was left healthy) that decision had to have affected the team in a negative way.

So at this moment our plan for next year is keep all the coaches, run it back with same players minus framber and pray nobody gets hurt. That will change with any trades of course and please let their be some coaches he get the axe

Normal health next year will be a boost - the 'healthy' late season version of Yordan had like a handful of games playing with Pena and Paredes. That's the nucleus for a playoff team if not a division winner if they're able to play together for a full season.

Pitching gonna take a step back next season most likely. First half Framber pitched well which you will be losing and man that would be some trick coaching another top 5 pitching performance out of a motley crew again.

Offensively you have returning

Pena
Paredes
Yordan
Altuve
Correa
Walker
Diaz
Smith
Meyers

Major factor is health. That group stays healthy then you don't need much and don't have much room to change

The pitching situation is much less settled
MaxPower
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Only one lefty bat there and I don't know how much the org loves Jose in LF and Paredes at 2B.
W
How long do you want to ignore this user?

we've already seen that movie

Atluve will be 36. Walker will be 35.

Yordan will be lucky to play 100 games

Yainer is not going to change

Dubon will start 100 games with Joe

Jake will hit 100 singles

the Astros will hit into 100 double plays

the one hope is that Cam makes the jump to an .800 OPS hitter in his second year -- that would really help

also...1st half Framber was exceptional

2.75 ERA in 19 starts

averaged 6.1 innings per start

the Astros don't have a replacement for 1st half Framber

They do. And it's scary.

They will offer him a QO and pray he gets an offer elsewhere. I mean you have to do the QO to get the draft pick back.

What if he takes the QO?

Then when operation "run it back" inevitably fails, you trade him at the deadline, like they should have this year.
