Guess we'll get it started.
What do we expect to see?
Boch retiring? Any major FA moves. any trades of some of our current pieces?
God loves you so much He'll meet you where you are. He also loves you too much to allow to stay where you are.

We do know that the Rangers will be reducing payroll this offseason. What that looks like, I have no idea. Adolis and Heim are for sure gone, imo

not surprising on those two. Higgy really showed to have the same ability behind the plate. I think the team got tired of Adolis chasing the all or nothing at the plate.

I really liked Heim in 23 and thought he was just worn out last year. He looks burned out. He needs some time off ND motivation to be good again. He needs to earn playing time somewhere else.

Wait...I thought they were trying to stay under the tax threshold so they could spend this offseason. They're cutting instead?

If Boch retires any ideas who may be the new skipper?

I think they brought in Schumaker in the off season as an understudy and replacement if Bochy retires.

BRUCE BOCHY WILL NOT RETURN AS RANGERS MANAGER IN 2026
Rangers and Bochy mutually agree on end of his managerial tenure in Texas;
Bochy has managed four World Series champions, including 2023 Texas Rangers,
and ranks 6th on all-time managerial wins list

Arlington, Texas The Texas Rangers tonight announced the club and manager Bruce Bochy have mutually agreed to end his managerial tenure with the organization. He has been offered a front office role to remain with the Rangers in an advisory capacity.

"Bruce Bochy is one of the greatest managers in baseball history and he will forever hold a place in the hearts of Ranger fans after bringing home the first World Series title in franchise history in 2023," said Rangers President of Baseball Operations Chris Young. "Boch brought class and respect to our club in his return to the dugout and we will always take pride in being part of his Hall of Fame career. We are grateful for everything he has given to the organization over the past few seasons and hopeful he can continue to impact the Rangers for many years to come."

Bochy, 70, has spent three seasons as Rangers manager from 2023-25, compiling a 249-237 (.512) record and guiding the 2023 club to the first World Series championship in franchise history. His 249 wins with the Rangers rank sixth in club history.

In his first season as Texas manager, Bochy guided the Rangers to the 2023 World Series championship, the first title in the franchise's 63-year history. Bochy was at the helm for four of the eight postseason series victories in franchise history and his 13 postseason wins rank 2nd in club annals to only Ron Washington (18).

Bochy has a career managerial record of 2252-2266 (.498) over 28 seasons and 4518 games with San Diego (1995-2006), San Francisco (2007-19), and Texas (2023-25). He ranks sixth in MLB history with 2252 wins. Over nine career postseason appearances as manager, Bochy has compiled a 57-37 (.606) record spanning 94 contests. The 57 playoff wins are T4th-most in MLB history, and his .606 winning percentage is 3rd all-time among the 38 managers with 5+ appearances in the postseason to only Hall of Famers Joe McCarthy (30-13, .698) and Sparky Anderson (34-21, .618).

Bochy has guided teams to 9 postseason appearances, 6 division titles, 5 pennants, and 4 World Series championships. He managed World Series winners with San Francisco (2010-12-14) and Texas (2023), one of six managers in MLB history to win at least four World Series titles: 7-Joe McCarthy/Casey Stengel, 5-Connie Mack, 4-Walter Alston/Joe Torre/Bruce Bochy. He also piloted the 1998 Padres to the National League pennant and an appearance in the Fall Classic. Since 2010, Bochy's teams have won 15 of the last 16 postseason series in which they've been involved.

Hired as the 20th full-time manager in Rangers history on October 21, 2022, Bochy was introduced at a Globe Life Field press conference on October 24, 2022. He was the first to take the Rangers managerial post after having previously won a World Series title as manager. Bochy was under a three-year contract covering the 2023-25 seasons.

Thie season marked Bochy's 51st season in professional baseball with roles as a player, coach, manager, or special assistant. The former catcher spent parts of 9 Major League seasons with Houston (1978-80), New York-NL (1982), and San Diego (1983-87) before beginning his coaching career upon retirement as a player following the 1988 season.

Not sure how legit this source is, but Mr Gigem said the same.

Edit: I guess Ken Rosenthal is the source.

I don't understand cutting payroll. I guess I'm going to have to cut my spending on attending games.

2nd edit: we haven't made the post season the last two years so let's cut payroll. That sounds like a grand plan. Hopefully a smokescreen.

Will always be thankful to Bochy for what he was able to accomplish with the Rangers.

But was also always maddening trying to follow his regular season in-game pitching management.

I think the Rangers can cut payroll and still improve the team.

We're losing a ton of P payroll to FA.

Let's start with Pitching:

Returning:
deGrom $38M - 2.97 ERA, 172.2IP
Eovaldi $26M - 1.73 ERA, 130IP
Leiter (25) serf - 29GS, 3.86 ERA, 151.2IP

Latz* (29) serf - 8GS, 33G, 2.84, 85.2 IP <-deserves a chance in ST. Was a great swing guy.
Rocker (25) serf - 14GS, 5.74 <- filler. Likely not a rotation piece, but could contribute
Corneill (22) serf <- outside chance in 2026. Filler.
Bradford (27) serf <-mid season hopeful. No stock in him.

Winn (25) serf - 33G, 1.51
Garcia* (29) serf - 71G, 2.95
Webb (31) a3 - 55G, 3.00
Sborz a3
Church (24) serf - 5G, 3.86

Losses FA
SP:
Mahle (30, $16.6) - 16GS, 2.18, 86.2IP <- Too good to not get a 3yr deal.
-- He owes us. 1yr/$5M is my offer. 3yr/$45M is what he'll likely get
Gray (33, $13.0) - 6G, 7.71 <- If he wants to be a RP, maybe for cheap.
Corbin* (35, $1.10) - 29GS, 4.34, 151.1 <- I'd give him a 2 deal worth $10M per.
- Likely gets a 2yr heal for $15-20M per
Kelly (36) - 10GS, 4.23, 55.1IP <- Mixed on him. Last chance to get a real deal. Hasn't gotten paid.

Martin ($5.50) - 49G, 2.98
Milner* ($2.50) - 72G, 3.78
Armstrong ($1.25) - 71G, 2.31
Coulombe*
Maton

Summary:
We have 3 SP and 5 RPs that are set:
deGrom, Eovaldi, and Leiter are a solid 3 SPs
Winn, Garcia, and Webb are a solid 3 RPs.
Latz in there somewhere. Rocker likely makes the P staff.

We have 5 roles to fill. Historically, CY would do this:
SP - late additional (Corbin, Lorenzen). CY finds a desperate 1yr deal $5 or so.
SP - I wouldn't mind an innings guy. Corbin?
3 RP - I'd take any of the 5 RPs back.

We'll likely sign another 2 guys to minor league deals.

Overall, the P... SP and RP was not the problem and recreating that magic for 2026 will be tough.

Put my kids to bed, grab a bite and my phone has 18 messages. I sift through them and twitter then come to see *checks notes* three notifications on TexAgs. Ohh, the off season thread. Sad.

I truly thought he would be back. They may have discussed how different this thing will look, payroll going down, and said no thanks to each other.

I would like to see mad dog retained but who knows?

Hello off season. Like others have said, I hope we can keep Maddox as the pitching coach. Not very excited to learn we are looking to reduce payroll.
