In our ballpark, I think the premium should be on players who can get on base, not so much how many HRs they can hit. Guys like Osuna and Freeman (and hopefully Carter) who can slap the ball around and run a bit. Sort of like the Cardinals of the early 80s. I think it was '82, they won the WS and only had two players in double figures of homers, George Hendrick and I think Darrel Porter. They hit a lot of doubles & triples and stole bases. Unless they decide to move the fences in or otherwise do something about the way this place plays, I think OBP matters as much or more as slugging. Probably not realistic in the modern game, but it sure seems to me like it might be the way to go because this place plays like the old Busch Stadium.
