Finally blew out a wheel on my most used carry-on this week and it's time for a replacement and upgrade.

What are your favorites for light business travel?

Rimowa cabin was my go to for many years living abroad and traveling on long haul flights all the time. Circumvented the planet on a 2 wk business trip with just that piece of luggage and a backpack

Been using the same one for a decade and am on a plane every other week on average.

Recently picked up the new Peak Design Roller Pro and really happy so far. I hate hard-sided bags that open in the middle, this is a top loader that is part hard shell and part soft shell and has some really cool features. Wheels are replaceable too.

this is my suggestion. There's much more expensive options out there, but these guys have the best price/features/warranty balance that I've seen.

Osprey Sojourn 22 if you like a duffle style roller. I have had bad luck with the Eagle Creek wheels and at least on the bags we had, they were not replaceable. The Osprey wheels are easily removed and replaced if needed.

It isn't a lifetime warranty against wear and tear. It is always wear and tear when you ship it to them.

I have a Victorinox Werks Traveler 5.0 Wt East/West Garment Bag I no longer use if anyone wants it. It is in 9.0/10 condition and I simply do not use it as I prefer other bags. Make me an offer. Email in profile.

Pelican makes a backpack with an integrated hardshell laptop case. Used this as a carryon for a long time and was happy with it. Didn't have to worry about computer / ipad getting wet / crushed. Rigid enough to be used as a seat in pinch.

Not a four wheel spinner so realize that's a deal breaker for many but me, my wife and my daughter all have one of these in medium. Been very good to us

I just purchased a Monos Carry On size and used it for my recent trip to Aruba. It came highly recommended by some clients and friends. It was great and perfect for short business trips IMO.

Have a few Tumis and an Eagle Creek. If you are looking for cheap I agree that EC is a great option; wheel cracked a few years ago and it was easy to get replacements shipped for free. Tumi repairs (for me usually something related to the handles) are also "free" but you pay $25 to ship it to Georgia for repair.

We have monos for the wife and she really likes it.

I'd say, in general, I think I lean towards soft sided - in part bc you can check them and they won't show up scuffed.

Most airline pilots are running around with LuggageWorks and a minority with Briggs and Riley. The preponderance of the Flight Attendants seem to run TravelPros. In either case, both groups are on several flights a day several days a week, and live out of those bags.

Currently on my second trip with a Travelpro (two wheeled version like the flight crews have). So far so good, should hold up a long time and the larger rollerblade wheels are very smooth.

I have had a TravelPro for going on 10 years now and it's been great.

But I've been considering upgrading just as a subtle flex to the Peak Design (although the review I watched said it's heavy??) or a Rimowa cabin.

I recently upgraded to Peak Design packing cubes and dopp kit which have been great.

I've had travel pro for many many years, but the rails taking up so much space inside the bag have always been an annoyance. wife has the briggs and riley baseline and that's flat bottom and does well - she likes it a lot. The Peak Design Roller Pro does look interesting and may try that out.

The annoying rails were a big reason I switched; the flat back on the B&R is really nice.

No longer travel for work, but when I did I bought a B&R that had a garment compartment. It was perfect for work travel. I'd take my work clothes (slacks, dress shirts, occasional suit jacket) w/ the hangers, straight into the garment section, then when I got to the hotel right into the closet. Still had the standard carry on section for shoes, toiletries bag, etc.

I've had it for about 13 years and still holding up great, granted I stopped traveling weekly about 8 years ago. I do still use it for all my personal travel, though.

The specs make it seem heavy but then I weighed my current bag and it was right in line with it. Hasn't been an issue and it rolls super smoothly (the wheels are repairable as well).

my fear with a rimowa cabin is getting gate checked and having an airline go full scratch and dent on it; have seen some nightmare images on reddit.

do we think the peak design material will hold up?

I can only speak to the backpacks and bags, but they've done well for several years so far. A carry on can be a different animal but would expect the same.

I am a frequent business traveler

1. If you are a frequent business traveler a spinner bag is a must
2. I bought a tumi last time and will never buy anything else. The quality is unmatched for me and free repairs, all you do is take it to local store and they will do it right there. They are all trained to do the repairs but only have had one issue ever.
