I have questions. Why is it taking so long to become competitive? Year two we won 6 games in the SEC, finished 9th and did advance to the NCAA tournament where we lost in the first round. It was a slight improvement from year 1 where we won 2 games in conference, but it did seem that we were trending in a positive direction. Then she promptly lost most of her roster, including Barker who was the biggest name we've had at A&M ever (subjectively). Outside of Barker, I cannot imagine any of the other girls that transferred did so because they received more money when looking at the teams they transferred to. Follow that up with this disaster of a season, and even more leave. Why can she not hold onto and build a roster? Serious question. No shade. Genuinely curious your take on this. As a person, I really like Joni. I want her to succeed. But we have seen other programs rebuild and reload with new coaches much more quickly. Is your theory that it's just because of NIL money? The girls that played this year looked like they had no interest in being on the floor and she didn't seem that interested in coaching them during games. No time outs. Arms crossed on the sidelines etc. Again / nothing personal. Just an observation. Do you feel the women's tennis team, volleyball team, softball team, golf teams are better funded that women's basketball? If the reason is solely NIL, then someone in administration needs to make that very clear because from the outside looking in it looks more like poor roster management and coaching and perhaps that she was more focused on USA basketball etc. It's hard to believe that it's just NIL when the other women's non revenue programs are knocking it out of the park.
Again / Im open for others opinions. It does seem like her budget has increased this year based on the recent coaching hires and increased roster size. This will be a crucial year for her.
