Howdy, TexAgs ... it's your old pal Gabe Bock here and I wanted to share a little story for ya that involves a recent real estate deal that we just closed and some interesting Aggie history!

This "little house" in the back yard at 710 Park Place has a special story! It was made using wood from the home of the guys who came up with the iconic Aggie term, "Gig 'Em!"

We're so thankful that we recently got to sell 710 Park Place off-market. I got the opportunity to take the lead on this one and it was yet another fantastic transaction inside College Station's Southside Historic District!

The home is more than 100 years old and is one of only 16 homes that were moved from the Texas A&M campus that remain intact. There are two detached structures in the back yard but the smaller "she shed" is where this story gets very interesting.

The shed was built with materials salvaged from 301 Dexter, before the small original Craftsman-style house there was torn down to build the larger modern Craftsman style home now present. This is of note as "Pinky" Downs lived in that home on Dexter. Pinky is famous as the Aggie (Class of 1906) who made popular the "Gig 'em Aggies" phrase and hand gesture, thanks to his exhortations during Yell Practice on October 25, 1930 before Texas A&M played the TCU Horned Frogs. That night, Pinky gave a speech and asked what the Aggies were going to do to the Horned Frogs. He replied, "Gig 'em, Aggies!" and made a hand sign of a closed fist and a thumb up. The term comes from hunting frogs or fish using a pronged spear called a "gig." The gesture became A&M's signature hand signal.

If you're curious the locations of the 16 remaining historic "campus homes" located in the Southside Historic District, here is the full list...

It's Texas "hate" week with the Aggie Baseball team streaking into Austin to take on Jim Schlossnagle's Texas Longhorns. The build-up could not be more intense, as the Aggies face their old coach and the No. 1 ranked team in the country riding a 7-1 record in their last 8 SEC games including series wins at Tennessee (No. 1 at the time), sweeping South Carolina at home and taking two games from then-No. 2 Arkansas last weekend. It's validation time and Michael Earley will take a highly motivated team over to the State Capitol ready to do a little butt kicking against perhaps the only team in America that is just as hot as Texas A&M.

In the latest episode of "Driving to School with Easton Bock," my son and I dive into the matchup. Would love for you to give it a watch if you have a few minutes. Here's the link...
