Any knowledgeable information would be appreciated:
I'm a first time home buyer and have been in my house for about two years ago. We received a devastating hail storm a couple of days ago. The siding on one side of my house was destroyed and my roof may or may not have been damaged....it's composition, but it's supposed to be able to withstand up to golf ball size hail. My questions:
A. Will making a claim on my homeowners policy for either the siding or the roof cause my rates to increase because I made a claim? If so, roughly how much for a first time claim for an act of God?
B. If I have the insurance company come out and estimate a claim and then decide to not file a claim, will that impact my homeowner's rate?
C. If my deductible is greater for roof damage, will I have to pay separate deductibles for the same storm event?
D. Tangential issue: does filing a claim on my car insurance for a hail storm cause my individual rate to increase?
Any knowledge would be appreciated...thanks.
