Howdy All,

My wife and I have a small house in Deanville, Tx (near Caldwell, 40 minutes to Kyle Field) that we used as our "gameday getaway" until we moved from Abilene to Brenham in 2017. But, we just don't use it much anymore since it's about the same distance from Brenham to Kyle Field as it is Deanville to Kyle Field. We've decided to sell it ourselves. It's not a fancy place, but it is comfortable. Kind of a cabin, really. But it's been great for us and we would love for another Aggie to end up with it! Check out the "Party Chicken Coop!" We are asking $135,000.

Not on topic but why the move from Abilene to Brenham?
I assume retirement but what made you choose Brenham?

Yes, we are retired. We already had a lot of friends in the College Station, Caldwell, and Dime Box area and we started spending more and more time at the Deanville house. We finally decided if we liked this area better, why not just make the move. As much as we liked the little Deanville retreat, it wasn't a consideration for us to live there permanently. (Although we did live there for 8 months!)

We had been coming to Brenham for dining, drinking, shopping, etc. and just really liked the town. Considered some other towns nearby, but Brenham was our first choice even though we didn't actually know anyone here at the time. We have kids in Austin, plus we have had season football tickets for over 20 years, and all the other stuff going on at A&M, so it just worked out. For us, College Station is just too busy these days, but it's great being able to go there whenever we want to!

We are retired but caring for 96 year old FIL in San Antonio. When the time comes we will move to College Station where we already have a house or Granbury. We've looked at Brenham and like that place too.

San Angelo is also in the mix. I'm a west Texas guy and love San Angelo. The wind and dust will probably keep us away from west Texas though.

Born in raised in Abilene. Went to A&M and lived in College Station for 7 years or so (a few years after I graduated we moved to CS from DFW, but moved back to DFW a few years ago).

I built the new STEI building for Blinn in Brenham while living in CS. Brenham is a great little town with some good spots to eat. LJ's, Dairy Barn, Manuel's and they have HEB.

I could see myself retiring in Brenham one day. And I agree, CS has gotten too busy.

Starlink would provide excellent internet service there. I lived outside Brenham near Independence for 8 years while I worked full time and slowly finished at A&M. There was only microwave line of sight or dial up available at the time. I have a mobile mounted Starlink Mini mostly for camping/off-road adventures out west that is far superior for $50/month with 50Gb. $165 for an unlimited plan.

We never have had internet there, but all the neighbors use ZochNet. I just always used a hotspot off my phone.

Haha, I tell people that Brenham has HEB, Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart and Specs. What more do you need? :-)

And Deanville has a new Dollar General. (Well, on 21. About 3 miles away.)

I use it at my place SE of Rockdale

It is a WISP

Cheaper than cellular and Starlink

It is slower than direct wire

Their cheapest plan is 10% more than Starlink's cheapest with far lower performance. Though they don't disclose what their setup cost is, so that's harder to compare.

That is a cool looking little spot you got there! I just drove by it last Saturday. My father in law has 2 little farms in Deanville and was born there. Great country.

Zochnet is unlimited, Starlink is $50 for 50 gigs

I have the $75 zochnet plan and I can work from the ranch and steam TVs with no problem

If there are lots of trees, you have to build a tower so that is $$$$$.
