We are switching back to USAA for homeowners insurance, and I noticed they offer a connected home discount for using 2 smart leak detectors (Roost or Resideo).

Has anyone done this, or used either of these brands? Are they worth is? If you have the USAA discount, how much did it bring your premium down (aka is it worth the investment on the equipment and subscription or is all of that more than the discount)?

Thanks!

Why? Are they back to being affordable?

They quoted substantially less (about $1200 less) than Germania, state farm, and a few others with lower deductibles and comparable coverage. I was also able to get a 1% deductible- which I couldn't do with some others.

I have not used USAA or this discount, nor these brands of sensors. Resideo was spun out of Honeywell when they got out of the consumer products (mainly AC thermostats) and are OK but for sure not great.
I do have water sensors, Mocreo for freezers and water areas like ice machine/RO and washer area. It has caught a few things. The thing that has saved me and several of my family members is we have Rheem water heaters with the automatic shutoff valves. They have built in sensors and turn off supply if tripped. They are mandatory in homes now. One was when I was out of town and it took care of the shutoff that I would not have been able to address.

I'm honestly not really concerned about the leak detection function of it (it's know that sounds bad). But USAA requires one of these two specific brands to get the discount (which is why I'm not concerned about other brands or water heaters with it built in). The prices arent horrible, and i would consider it if it's a net gain. But I'm unsure of whether or not it would be.

Interesting. I just checked mine and they're still double what I have.

Dunno what to tell you. We have had Germania for the past 8 years. This year, our premium was going to go up $1200 over last year. USAA this year was about what Germania was last year for us. I was surprised that our quote with USAA was so low, but I'm not going to complain.

USAA has not been close to affordable for a while. I would love for that to change.
