We live in San Antonio and our son had both the flu and pneumonia causing him to miss 26 days of school. They were excused absences and he kept up his school work. He's been in a charter school but we are moving him to SA Academy, an all boys school starting next year. As with most private schools, part of their enrollment/acceptance is testing. He scored in the top 3% nationally. He receives 100s on 99 percent of his work. He plays golf, soccer and is in martial arts.
Today he wasn't feeling well and asked his teacher if he could go to the nurse. She said "no, you've missed too much school." Mind you, this was after 12 pm and he would not be counted absent as long as he is in school until 10:30 am. When he came today he was running a 102.2 temp. The school policy is if your child has a 100.4 or higher they aren't supposed to come to school the next day. But if his normal tomorrow we will send him to school.
Should I be concerned that the state could mandate that he repeats 1st grade?
