Looking for something Thursday night. We like different things. Don't need BBQ.

Man, that's a solid list overall, but one major outlier. Cantina del Rio is awful and has been ever since they went to table service and upended the menu (and recipes). The OG Cantina was awesome, but that's been about 7-8 years ago. Adobe Verde went the opposite direction. Their food used to be below average and they stepped up in a big way if you want Mexican in Gruene
used to love Adobe Verde growing up. Went a year and a half ago and it was awful. Like the worst Tex mex I've ever had.FIDO*98* said:AgPT06 said:

The new updated menu and building remodel has been within the last 6 months. Went last weekend and I got the Birria Tacos and wife got the Fish Tacos. Both were really good, but the Birria was definitely the better of the two. We'll run up and get nachos and a margarita when we just want to sit outside in Gruene.

It's definitely better, but I'd still do Dos Rios over Cantina. It's basically Pappasito's without the name.
Absolutely unique, and a good reminder that real german food is turrible.FIDO95 said:
If you want something unique for NBTX you have to try Alpine Haus. Authentic German cuisine.
.
the real OG German restaurant in NB was the Log Haus. On the East side of 35 between Engle and solms kind of where tree of life is now. Iirc.FIDO95 said:

I always can tell if a Mexican place is good if I see an abuelita flipping tortillas with her flour caked bare hands. That's how this place is but German. When I noticed there was a Grandma in the kitchen barking orders to the staff in German, I knew the food would not disappoint

Compared to what? Houston, Austin, DFW, San Antonio?TikkaShooter said:
NB is unfortunately a food desert when it comes to decent restaurants
It's Tex Mex. Bbq. And then a bunch of places that just kinda make it bc they are the only show in town.
Huisache is probably the stand out. Beer/wine only. No cocktails.
So it's my understand the the Adobe Verde name is completely gone and it's now called "Tacos y Tequila" and I completely agree with you. Went with my wife, parents and child. We really wanted to like it as it's relatively close and they have a nice playground for the kid. It was bad food.Quote:

100%. Started going mid '90s after church. The beach like fabric cushions. Tile table tops. Turkey sub was my go to back then. As I got older it became the chicken fried steak. Not a bad thing on the menu.DGrimesAg92 said:
