I am cross posing from the History forum. I've been listening to these podcasts as they roll out. I only knew Ron Forrester as any cadet would know who an upperclassman two classes ahead. Ron was in Animal 8, class of '69.

In a way Karonie is lucky, she got closure. If luck is the appropriate word. I was in a helicopter company, we had the resources to go look and yet we still have 10 from my company still over there. They are never forgotten and we have individual guidon's with their names on display at the National Vietnam War Museum in Mineral Wells. Losing a son or brother or husband in a war is a terrible thing, it is compounded many times over if they are never found.

I agree on the closer issue. I hope to someday see the same for Steve Johnson '68.

Our son moved to FW over a year ago. When we go to visit him next time, I'd like to make a trip to the museum in Mineral Wells. Thanks for mentioning.

BTW, I believe the article about Ron Forrester will be in the June edition of Texas Monthly. My understanding is it should be on the newsstands within the first few days of June.

You can also enter the old Ft Wolters gate and drive the post, going past the old WOC barracks, the heliport, the O Club, hospital, HQ and exit, all on the same road, a big circle. Every Vietnam helicopter pilot spent time at Wolters and IMO the Mineral Wells area would be vastly different today had they not chosen Rucker as The Place.
