Longhorn Tavern used to make a hell for good CFS, not sure if they still do or not.

100 miles is a pretty large radius, way too many places to list in that circle.

Goodson's in Tomball
The Jay Cafe in Needville

Those come to mind quickly for me but there are probably 500 joints in that circle that this board could drum up.

Longhorn Tavern was elite. Not sure if they still are but I doubt it has changed.

I know where to get CFS …. Just looking for the joint that folks think is the BEST.
There was a cafe in downtown Bryan named Wehrman's that closed sometimes after '75. My '69 classmates and I still think it was the GOAT for CFS & Onion Rings. Looking for the new BEST!

When LT moved from the old place on 21 to downtown something changed. It's not the same to my taste buds.

I went to Dixie Cafe on the way to the tennis matches in Waco twice last week. Had the CFS and the hamburger steak. Both were pretty tasty.

Edit update: went back and this time had the fried catfish. Some if the best in the area and they give you a ton on the lunch plate. I was stuffed.

New place opened in Downtown Hempstead, (yep, Hempstead) called Citizens Coffee and Wine Cafe. It has a contender. Its not a hang over the plate CFS, but it's very good.

I concur with The Jay Cafe in Needville. The small order cfs is going to be enough for most people. Save some room for the pie as well; they're excellent.

Looks great. Most of the time the hang over the plate kind is Chicken Fried Batter with a little steak anyway.

Just like the roaches made Los Nortenos the best mexican in town, the rats and mice that could walk right in through the gaps in the walls at the old LT likely led to that taste everyone remembers and loves.

I'm convinced that the move was the first time the grease had been changed. Ever. And the new stuff just isn't the same.

Just give it time to season, that's all it takes.

Ranch Hand Cafe
24626 TX-321, Cleveland, TX 77327

Doesn't look like much from the outside (old house repurposed as a restaurant) but they have great food. I have eaten hundreds of CFS over the years. If the Ranch Hand CFS isn't the best, it's right up there. The onion rings are fantastic as well.

Los Nortenos... dayum that's a blast from the past. That area of Bryan looks nothing like it did back then. Kind of like the Redmond Terrace strip center.

Los Nortenos was the best … especially on football weekends when the out of towners didn't know about it!!
Did it ever reopen after the shooting?

OK … back to CFS … 8 old guys - class '69 - started a summer CFS crawl yesterday. Livingston, Spring, College Station and Wimberly represented . Went to Wolfpack Woodfired Tavern in Sealy. CFS was a 9+. 10 oz of cut with a fork tenderized round steak with a batter that clung to the meat and cooked perfectly. Surprise was appetizer of cream cheese, brisket stuffed jalepeno wrapped with bacon coated with batter and deep fried. If the CFS wasn't so good, I'd stop in just for these jewels!!! We're putting a list together … some of the joints mentioned here are already on it!!

T-Bone Tom's in Kemah is also a place that punches out a damn good CFS. Plus they have armadillo eggs.

Hilltop is really good. And very strange. A Greek restaurant with a CFS. A really good one.

The original Henry's in San Angelo also has yellow gravy on CFS. Mexican place that turns out a great CFS

Nailed it with Marfa's and it's not even close... The Jay Cafe mentioned above is good if you are in that area. I personally won't drive across town to go to the Longhorn. Way too much breading on their CFS and nothing special.

If you're ever in Amarillo/Canyon try the CFS at Green Chili Willy's. They have several different types/flavors and always thought highly of them.

Chris Sheppard's show is awesome. I watch it all the time even though I don't live there anymore. I love when he highlights a place I like, but usually he is showing places I never knew about or opened after I left. He really loves those hammers, and that makes me happy every time.

Hole in one cafe in Lufkin. Looks like a dump surrounded by Hotels. CFS was amazing.
