Howdy, Wow, it is HOT in Rockport, TX, but y'all knew that. Anywho my question/comment is this. Really like a G & T in the heat, really like! My question is about the Gin, and please note I am in Rockport, not Dallas or Houston so choices are fairly limited. I like the floral flavor, wondering which gin you find the most 'floral'? Currently using Bombay Sapphire, what is a good alternative? Thanks!

If you can find some of the Hendricks variants, not the regular Hendricks, get that.

Also, try ordering some tonic syrup from Jack Rudy if it's not available in a store near you. You use a small amount of that and top with club soda, so it's not as pricey as it seems at first glance.

Dripping Springs Artisan Gin is pretty dang good! It's good for G&T but so smooth it could be a sipper.

+1 for Citadelle, also Nolet's is floral but usually more expensive than I care for.

Tonic is just as important if not more so. Fever Tree all day every day for a proper G&T. Gin is like vodka, you really don't need to break the bank for a good one.

I've been spending a lot of time tweaking my GT recipes. As the previous poster said…Fever Tree Tonic Water is fantastic. I've used others and they just don't compare. I buy them in the 5oz cans and they come in an 8 pack. They are the perfect size for 1 drink. I usually use the 5 oz cans and 2 oz of Empress Indigo gin. It's purple and very floral. It also gives your GT a fun look since it's a purple color. I usually use 1/4 to 1/2 of the line depending on size and squeeze into the drink and then also throw the limes you just squeezed into the drink. Such a fun refreshing summer drink. I prefer mine in high ball glasses with a alot of ice

I like the official supplier of the Royal Navy, Plymouth Gin from Black Friar Distilleries. Get the Naval strength in case it leaks on your black powder .

A good local gin is that made by Still in Austin. It is a little heavy on the citrus notes but that is not a criticism.

The best botanical-forward gin I've ever had, and I've had most of them, was Monkey 47. I prefer the more forward citrus notes in Lighthouse, especially for a G&T, but everyone's palate is different.

They aren't cheap, but absolutely fantastic.

Second the Fever Tree. Use good tonic.

Their recipe calls for 0.75 oz syrup with 2 oz gin. I usually use 1 oz. Then top with however much soda you want. I just add a splash, or often skip it altogether, honestly, and just add ice.

We were staying at my wife's Aunt's place in England and she implored us to help ourselves to whatever was in the kitchen. I had a g&t with tanq flor de sevilla and proceeded to finish the bottle. Was very disappointed to find they don't distribute it in the states so we grab a few at duty free everytime we're on our way home.

Just this summer I've seen a Tanq sevilla Orange that looks similar, but I haven't had it yet. Internet reviews say it doesn't quite match up to the flor de Sevilla but it's probably the exact same thing.

Off topic, but a gin Old Fashioned made with orange bitters it pretty darn tasty.

Tanqueray 10. Squeeze half a lime in tall glass. Cut a few strips of the squeezed lime and drop them in the glass. Pour your normal pour of gin on top. Muddle all ingredients. Fill glass with ice. Top with good tonic. Enjoy

Have had that with a barrel aged gin (Driftless Glen is the one I tried) and liked it a lot.
Haven't tried with a clear gin, though. I assume that's what you're referring to?

My normal G&T is Hendricks with Cucumber Fever Tree. So damn good.

The shift from bourbon to gin is the best part of summer! These are currently on the front of shelf. That Botanist is different & good - it's the Islay Cask Rested Gin. Mixing with the Fever-Tree Mediterranean tonic is really good.

Howdy, took y'alls advice, ordered some Jack Ruby from Amazon. Gotta admit, however, having seen him kill Oswald live on TV (Yes, I am that old) ordering by that name is kinda freaky!!!

Botanist is my go to, although I have never tried with Mediterranean Fever Tree, I will have to give it a go.

Something I discovered this summer is Barr Hill Gin from Vermont. It is very refreshing in the summer heat. It has a little honey which provides a tad of sweetness. It pairs great with a lemon or orange slice. I also like it with lime but I keep the lime wedge very small and dont squirt any juice.

The Barr Hill Old Tomcat is a good gin for the winter months. The barrel aging adds some spice. It's also a nice change of pace in a negroni.

Thanks to the advice here I ordered a trio of the Jack Ruby syrups and Portland Rose City tonic syrup. Made a variety of G&Ts last night for several family members over for dinner and they were a hit. The Jack Ruby Extra Bitter is better than their standard for me, while the ladies loved the Rose City. I like being able to adjust the strength of the tonic syrup to taste and not having to deal with all the small bottles of Fever Tree.
