More than happy to admit I was very wrong. Kid worked hard and his work is being rewarded. Hope he gets a full time spot next season.

Not that we really needed any more evidence about Aggies' collective lack of basketball smarts, but this thread is a real keeper.

There were similar sentiments on here about Khris as well.

Seeing that Lakers graphic showing Brook Lopez as a 10th Year NBA player makes my heart hurt about how old I am now.

I would hardly say people saying he wasn't going to make it means people lack basketball smarts because pretty much every nba team didn't think he would make it either. They all passed on him in the draft. They all passed on him after summer league and training camps and over his first entire year out of college.

But he believed in himself and busted his ass and proved nba teams wrong.

People said he had NO chance to make it when it should have been obvious he had a solid chance if his outside shooting got better. He'd already improved his shooting throughout his college career and from high school, and it stands to reason that a kid with his work ethic who was freed from the constraints of college would continue to get better.

I'll agree that it was a bit shortsighted for people to say he would never play a game, but he also hasn't made it either.

Ive always said he is good enough to be a solid bench rotational player.

You don't think so? On several occasions, we've had posters say that Kennedy can't improve our poor ft shooting or build a semi-decent offense because he doesn't have 3pt shooters. Obviously you can't fix everyone, but a good shot doctor and a whole lot of practice can do a lot for both.

Anyway, not interested in derailing a pretty funny bump full of so much fail, but it did make me laugh a bit that our "not a true point guard" is now playing PG in the nba.

Alex learned to shoot in the NBADL. That's exactly what it's for. To take prospects and develop them for the NBA. then apply the skills in summer league for display. Alex is a hard worker and willing learner.

Quote:

The D-League did exactly what it is supposed to do. Of course, it requires Hard Work and Time, as I've outlined numerous times. The NBA reserves player development and instruction to D/G League and on display in the Summer League. there aren't many practices once the 82 game season gets rolling, and isn't a classroom.

And then one page prior, same poster:

Quote:

#98 prospect. Caruso is not going to the NBA, except as a free agent. Possibly if he played for Madrid for 3-4 years.

NBADL would be a waste of time.

*confused*

Fans and experts were wrong about how a guy projected at the next level. Almost like how until hop saw fall practice and started the R Williams bandwagon all of the insider fanboi types here *cough - not you of course - cough* were telling us all summer how eric vila was the stud incoming player of the class and nobody at all was talking about robert. It happens. The same people who pretty much didnt think Caruso was NBA good all felt pretty much the same about House and Jalen. Weird that there aren't any threads where smart basketball aggies thump their chests about how they knew all along jalen/house were gonna make it.

This isn't being wrong about a prospect, which happens to everybody. This is a guy who Ags watched for four years and the vast majority of them took very strong positions that he had no shot at the NBA. And making it even more ridiculous is the level to which some Ags seemed to revel in it.

There's taking a skeptical but hopeful approach, which would be understandable, and there's taking an over-the-top "there's no freaking way THAT guy is going to make it" stance.

But again, he hasnt made it yet, at least not to the definition of most. And it isn't like our fans were stupid. The entire nba chose not to draft him twice, then chose not to sign him as a free agent.

To be fair, it's not like he signed a UDFA deal right out of school and immediately began contributing to an NBA team. He spent a year in the developmental league and has spent this season bouncing between the developmental league and the end of the bench (he's averaging 3ppg for the Lakers). So it's been a long journey for him and he's got a ways to go.

I loved Caruso's game and am glad I was wrong about his NBA chances. Hell, I actually went to a Lakers game just to cheer for him, and I ****ing hate the Lakers. I sincerely hope that he proves me even more wrong in the years to come and moves from fringe NBA player to legitimate bench contributor. But if somebody didn't think Caruso was good enough for the NBA, and then Caruso made a roster and averaged 3ppg, that prediction was not, in my opinion, "lol what an idiot!" territory.

People said he had no shot at playing in the NBA. Now people are saying that he still hasn't made it yet.

He maxed out a 2-way contract and continues to get pt. He's now on the 15 man roster and just started for the first time. What does he have to do to make it? How many games does he have to start for the people who said he would never play at all to be wrong?

I'm one of the people who didn't think he'd play in the NBA, and I was wrong (and very glad to be so). I thought he'd top out as a solid Euro-league player, but didn't think he was quite good enough to make the NBA. Basically, I thought he was in close, but no cigar territory. Again, that prediction was wrong.

My contention is that this doesn't indicate complete cluelessness because I don't think "not quite good enough for the NBA" and "deep bench player on a lottery team who'll get substantial minutes only when injuries mount" are THAT far apart. Maybe you disagree.

Regardless, I hope he continues to improve, is promoted beyond deep bench player in the future, and proves me completely deadass wrong.

He's not all the way in yet. He's gone farther than most all of us thought. Next step is to make a regular roster. I'd say right now he stands an excellent chance.

Yea, so far he has just proved the people wrong who said he would never play a game, which was not a small amount of people

Caruso reportedly made about 300K this season, because the Laker's maxed out his 45 days and then now have him on the roster full time these last few games.

Not life changing money but still a pretty nice gig and paycheck for 24 years old. And just being able to say 'I started a few games at PG for the Los Angeles Lakers' is pretty cool.

Ah yes, the board that is routinely pessimistic and wrong about their own players defending themselves after being hilariously wrong, yet again.

Good job guys. Not only were you wrong, but now you've given visual proof that you're too stubborn to admit when you're wrong.

Maybe you should spend some more time on Curious George to brush up on your reading skills. After that, you can have another go at my post and then try to explain to me how I'm too stubborn to admit I'm wrong.

Alex giving a shout out to a teammate whose path to the NBA makes Alex's own journey look downright easy. 10 years in the D league is a lot of bus rides.

I think he has a decent shot. I'm surprised by the general consensus that he doesn't have the handles to be an NBA pg.

There is much less ball pressure on the guards at an NBA level. It's about whether you can create for yourself or your teammates.

He's got plus size, vision, and rebounding at the 1. The question has always been his shot which is the easiest skill to develop. He's also shown great strides. Like most rotation guys though, it's a lot more about opportunity than anything. Need to end up on the right team with a chance to play and impress.

Felt good about that then and now

Darren Collison, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Love, and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute were all starters, I think. They probably qualify as NBA guys.
