The roster was decimated more by players running out of eligibility than by Buzz. Granted he took 4 guys that would have probably played significant minutes next yr but what else would you have expected ? Whether or not those guys would have fit Bucky's system I dunno but you have to think Payne and Solo would have at the very least . It's how things go. You have to think Bucky brings some good players with him as well… point guard from North Alabama is the first of hopefully 4 or 5.

Payne is an NBA player. Anyone would take him. I loved Solo for his relentless effort on defense and his ability to smother 1-5. But offense was below trash. Truly pathetic. He almost can't be on the court on that end, which negates his effectiveness on defense.

He is not a Schlossnagle because he never had enough success. BUT, he had been building a team of 8 Sr/Graduate student athletes to get his best roster ever to help him get another job. Then left us with almost no roster.

Then badmouthed us to agents to try and keep good coaches from coming to A&M.

Pretty crappy things to do.

It was hard to top Schloss

He left a team playing for the national championship before the national championship before we even got to the college World Series likely and was behind the back, recruiting the players while they were playing for national championship to their most hated rival of all time.

Is there any evidence of your second paragraph? I haven't heard that yet. Not second guessing you, I would just like to read more into it.

On your first point, while Buzz did construct the roster this year to maximize this season knowing he'd likely be gone, I don't think it really mattered. In basketball especially, players follow coaches. If we had 6 underclassmen coming back they all would've followed him most likely. Solo is a prime example. Dude seemed fully bought into A&M, but his first loyalty was to Buzz so he is following him to UMD. That's just how it is in this era.

Heard that from a friend who is high up in A&M administration, but not in the athletic administration.
High enough up that he would know.

To Buzz's credit, he never did anything off the field to warrant comparison to Schloss.

To Buzz's detriment, he never did anything on the field to warrant comparison to Schloss.

I think it's a natural comparison (two coaches essentially choosing to leave A&M under varying conditions), but ironic these two are linked, given the different sports.

Buzz had less success than his predecessor. Why would he be well thought of?
I don't know why this is such a hard concept for most -2 sweet sixteens versus 1 first round win - I guess the lows were lower but Buzz missed the tournament twice and performed so bad in the pre-conference that we were never better than 7seed until this year. And this years team underperformed their season long ranking

Buzz places high emphasis on good character.
Schleeze has shown he couldn't care less.

One has a history of having players follow him wherever he goes.
The other hasn't had a single player follow him anywhere.

That should tell you a lot.
Bingo. Unless you know the specifics, Buzz deserves the benefit of the doubt. If a deal wasn't finalized, he was actively recruiting for A&M. After the deal was done, he was actively recruiting for Maryland. How could you inform your current boss that you were recruiting for a team you didn't have a job with yet? What did you expect him to say? Honestly? His silence was the most telling sign that he knew there was a high probability. However, he would be foolish to say anything before the deal was truly finalized.

Yes, I am a Buzz apologist, but I would genuinely like to know what he "should" have done from someone who actually knows what transpired. Not hearsay.

What annoyed me about him recently was the best shooting season we ever had was 32-33% in his 6 years.

So I did a little digging, his last 3 VA Tech teams 35, 39, and 40%. How in the world did the offense look so bad here almost all the time.

The only question I have about the buzz to Maryland situation is if he can do a better job at Maryland than mark turgeon did? MT had issues with A&M basketball being 2nd banana to football and even being 3rd banana to baseball. Off he goes to Maryland achieving limited success but not making fans happy in the process. Next thing you know he leaves in the middle of the season, never to be heard from again. I can only wonder if buzz Will suffer a similar fate?

BCG couldn't stand A&M basketball, even though fans loved his style of play. He was out the door to Arkansas until Kentucky called and he ditched Ark for Kentucky. UK fans couldn't stand A his style of play and within a few short years he was kicked to the curb and has been trying to put the pieces back together ever since.

Buzz might want to be careful what he asks for!

At this point, I don't really care to know the specifics. I personally don't understand why he left, but he's Buzz and he's not your typical coaching dude. If you read the tea leaves throughout the year, you know he was heading out the door to somewhere after this season.

He certainly didn't take us to new heights, he just teased us. He's a good coach, but not a great coach.

What I am kind of annoyed about is that he left the cupboard empty. At the end of the day both parties got what they wanted, I'm not sure we could have handled another year of torrid shooting and bad offense and I'm guessing he left for greener pastures at a basketball school.

Not sure you could have 3 more different coaches. Turd was not a good coach. I think he was bad at assessing talent and was not able to develop players. BCG had a host of problems, most of them off the court. Buzz is a theologian that likes to coach basketball. All three had very different approaches and game plans. Will be interesting to see how well Buzz does at Maryland. I expect he will have the same type of success he had here.

Pretty much nailed it.

I'll be happy to be proven wrong but I just dont think he's that great of a coach.

If he wasnt so desperate to be dishing out life quotes every press conference then I dont think people would know(or care) who he is.

I didn't think he was a good fit when folks were talking about him in this forum before he was here. He was better than I expected but his recruiting was mystifying.

I haven't heard anything concrete or well sourced on the "badmouthing" about his departure; only rumors. His unique coaching approach and genuine investment in his players as individuals naturally drew them to Maryland. I believe he is genuinely passionate about his coaching style and willing to fight for it. While this passion can sometimes create blindspots, his players undoubtedly benefited from his influence.

Well, let's move on. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Bucky. He'll definitely have a more conventional approach to recruiting and leading a team. I just hope we can defend. Losing won't be enjoyable, even if we score a lot of points. I'm eager to see what he can accomplish.

We underachieved this year with a roster that was assembled for this season only. There was no future plan because Buzz had no plan to stick around. Not sure what's weird about criticizing that.

Agreed. It's no doubt disappointing that we didn't make a farther run in the tourney this past year given the veteran team we had, but overall, it's been our most consistent program of the Big 3. And it has the least amount of resources of the 3.

I was going to put out that baseball making it to a national title honestly made it the most consistent alone.

Buzz is gone. I count that as a good thing. It was quick and seamless. . As opposed to women's soccer & basketball where underwhelming coaches just hang on and on forever it seems. Those programs can't make any progress until we clean house.
