Buzz leaving and the AD bringing a new younger coach has brought excitement back into the program for me.
The new coach is certainly looking hard for the best available players.

I don't think it's the age it's the style of play. We've already seen multiple guys talk about how Bucky's offense was one of the reasons he committed

What is the song at the front of these "recruit pickup" videos? I love it!

Hate the second half part though

if the talent on paper translates to buckys system we have a chance to be shockingly good. we may take a few bumps early but as th season progresses we should really take off.

I don't think that will be an issue -- with pressing as much as the guys will be and the run and gun type offense, guys will have to rotate in and out constantly.

Bucky's recruiting in his first year has far exceeded what I thought he'd be able to do. He sounds super excited and wants to win. He's passed test 1. Looking forward to even more excitement when the team gets on the court!

Pressing does require more substitutions than the way MT coached.
I will be interested in seeing if he subs 1 or 2 players at every opportunity or if we have enough talent to substitute most of the team at time out breaks.

Bucky does not appear to be wasting this opportunity for sure. So far he is exceeding expectations imo. Proof will be in the pudding but statistically at least this seems to be a group that has a chance to be competitive .

Edited to say I just listened to the Bucky interview that's linked on the home page. I think he's going to kill it here. He has that air of confidence without being cocky. Several x in the interview he says "we will do it". Also appreciated his comments about multi yr players and how today's players don't get the same quality of experience as the pre-NiL era players.

I am super excited about this. November can't come soon enough.

Makes me sad how little Buzz tried last off-season. Last year could have been really special if we had better depth. Instead directed nil bucks to his mediocre bench guards/wings.

Bucky shows what can be done with a coach all in on improving the roster 1-13.

Let Bucky hit the floor first before deifying him please. We've fallen for this shtick before not that he isn't the "real thing baby" like Coca Cola. But that was just marketing after all…

Phelps and Payne were big pickups. Buzz just Buzzed them with his system for the most of the year.

Payne, yes. He was really the only player from last year that really could have been helpful.

Phelps, not so much. He was just another guard that wasn't that good at shooting 3s most games and was barely decent ball handler and passer for the guard position.

Regarding Buzz: I'm shocked Maryland went to the same well twice…past that it's more fun to be in the Bucky era…so far at least!!!

Phelps was Buzz's and the guy's on the rosters answer to replacing Boots Radford and he did a decent job of it imo. Too many turnovers was my issue.

Ags were a better team with him than without him imo.

they were. But u can't sit on the off-season these days with players as bad as Carter and hef in the 9 player rotation. No excuse.

Why not go to the euro leagues and get players vs big school. These guys have a lot more

agreed if buckys first few months have shown me anything it is that buzz was lazy on the recruiting trail.

I think he was more lazy regarding NIL. Buzz sees himself in a very different light, as he's too good to go and chase down NIL dollars for the program...it's simply beneath him.

Not sure I buy this as an argument. Until he left he had three HS recruits signed and would have gotten the rest in the portal just like Bucky has.
I am not saying he wasn't ready to leave but Bucky has done all this from the portal just like most of the SEC coaches that have significant rebuilding to do. If Buzz would have stayed he would have done the same in rages to tapping the portal.
Obviously those players would have for his mold and been different but to say he was lazy when every player but McDermott and a HS recruits is a portal addition means that whoever was in charge would have done the same regarding the portal and two of the key pieces would have stayed as well

i don't doubt that buzz would have filled his roster i do not believe he would have filled it this efficiently. i am not knocking buzz personally i was a big buzz guy but there were rumors that he didn't focus much on recruiting and even brought players in without seeing them. to me buzz is a really good coach not sure he puts this much effort into recruiting.

I think he puts in plenty of effort, it's maybe how that effort is allocated that I'd question. The "Buzz can't recruit" thing is one of those things where it's sort of right, but it's a lot more complicated than people act like.

I think there were a couple of major flaws in Buzz's recruiting, but to say they were flaws you have to agree that most of the time he was a pretty good recruiter. He had a good eye for what kind of players he wanted, and he was really good at not wasting a lot of time on players we were never going to get. Not saying he was some kind of ace recruiter, but given where we are in NIL, he was pretty good at getting the guys he wanted to get. If he actually sucked at it then being as good as we were meant he was some kind of x's and o's savant and surely we can agree that's not the case.

1) He's far too loyal to guys currently on the roster who are simply not good enough - Still having Hefner, Manny, and Jace playing a combined 25% of the game minutes was ridiculous. I think you could defend any one of those players, but all three of them was just brutal. Buzz could have fairly easily upgraded that position, but chose not to.

2) He's not going to be a mover and a shaker with donors to try and squeeze a few more bucks out of everyone. Whether it's his stubbornness, arrogance, some combination thereof, or something else, he was either convinced he could win with what he had or that the time spent schmoozing was better spent doing something else, but it's not laziness.

3) And this is going to be the annoying one because I'm absolutely convinced he's not going to play this way at Maryland, he went down a road of play style here that meant we were never going to be an attractive place for skilled offensive players. We were great at finding guys who like to play football on a basketball court but it would have been nice to have a few more skilled players. But once we went down that road we 100% committed to it which made it basically impossible to play any other way.

Kind of an apples and grapefruit situation though.
Bucky has a literal blank slate.
Buzz had been here for years, established rapport with his players, and there's no telling what they'd heard in their recruitment and/or once they'd arrived.

Buzz can't just amputate every player that hadn't lived up to what he'd expected coming in.
