Memphis basketball fined & put on probation

Quote:

The NCAA announced penalties for the Memphis men's basketball and softball programs on Wednesday as the result of an investigation into academic integrity violations. The investigation concluded that two softball players were paid a combined $550 by a former academic advisor, Leslie Brooks, to give the basketball player test and quiz answers and do some of his coursework for him.

Presidents and chancellors run the NCAA so of course it's nitpicky…

Stupid. We are in a professional era, so this type of arbitrary and nonsensical enforcement should end. Mind you, I don't like it, but if the rule is players are going to be able to make millions of dollars, then end the hypocrisy.

I'm actually the other way here. There's no more guise of being a "student-athlete," these are professionals and they should be treated like it.

They should get absolutely hammered for academic violations and that sort of thing now. That or we should just go all the way and stop even having athletes attend classes if they don't want to.

If you can't fulfill the basic requirement of having passing grades (which is not hard at all with some of these BS athlete majors), you don't need to be participating in college sports paid or not. Full stop

The day they no longer have to be students the athletic teams need to break off from the university and play under a different name. Defeats the entire purpose of a school having athletic teams

Why limit it to athletes?

So when the $2 million dollar athlete gets popped for cheating on a daily quiz and the program gets put on probation, who are we really pissing off?

You have zero clue what their academic capabilities are…
