We lost, I'm pissed, and if I ever get out of this parking lot I'm going straight to freebirds. Am I BAS syndrome-ing appropriately? Because this seems very familiar.

The last paragraph gives me hope because even last season she struggled early on. But towards the end of conference play she seemed to be a whole new different player. Maybe some athletes are engineered that way and they grow as the season goes on. I'm sure the coaches are on her and she knows Applegate and Thomas are gunning for her jersey. It's much different this season with the expectations so high after all the off season hype. But let's hope she can find herself again, hopefully soon! Conference play is exactly 2 weeks away from tomorrow!

Well my wife is happy. She coached SMU's setter from middle school all the way through hs at LoveJoy.

My wife was a setter that play D1 all 4 years so shes pleased with her coaching

Wow, that's interesting! She was on fire today. Last match she had 10 blocks, which is insane from a setter position!

We have a special disdain for Avery Carlson in our home. My daughter played for Frisco Liberty and Lovejoy beat us in the regional quarterfinals 3 straight years. She had a down year at tu last year - but she was really good tonight.

I skipped out on 9 holes tonight for this...

This reminded me of one game during Morrison's first year that I took my whole family to. Can't remember the team we were playing but our team was horrendous that night. Quickest game I've ever been to. No rhythm at all and what looked like easy passing opportunities were a struggle.

I hope this game is our mulligan and we come out firing tomorrow at TCU. The frogs are going to be licking their chops. We have to want it more than they do.

We did not play great tonight and got punished by a good SMU team. I understand some of the frustrations coming because as it was pointed out earlier we care about this team, but I'm sure as frustrated we are about this performance the girls and coaches are even more frustrated. Hopefully we can make adjustments and come out stronger tomorrow against TCU. The good news is it's still early in the season so there's still plenty of time to figure it out but we will need to clean up the service errors if we want to have the season this team is capable of having

Any insights that are shareable in an open forum on Carlson? I know literally zero about her other than this is her 3rd school. Makes me question some things but again, I don't know her situation at all.

Piss poor performance. I was singing their praises earlier today for showing up in big games so far. Should have known better.

Any post game videos/comments from Jamie and players?

Just read Nebraska was having issues on defense and was down 0-2 in a top 10 matchup last week. Libero was changed and they won the game. Defense is incredibly important at this level. No defense, no offense. Was very surprised Morrison didn't do the same. Maybe the first time I did not agree with his coaching.

Sometimes a combination doesn't work for a game. Switch out the libero to see if the defense gets going. Put your starter back in the next game. No problem. Everyone needs a break now and then.

You just keep going. You already said this before, why are you saying it again. I did not get on this thread until the end of the second set and of course read your posts blaming Underwood. So I focused on her play in the 3rd set to see what's up because her play had not jumped out to me as the reason we were getting killed. So in the 3rd set she had one bad pass and of course someone commented on it. Then she makes great passes and sets the rest of the set and no one states she doing great. So when that happens it looks like an agenda to me. If you are criticizing a player, you better not ignore when they are doing well. And that's when I started commenting on the thread.

This is not why we lost. We were bad in several areas. But if you had to pick out one, it was our outside hitters making errors the most. That was the biggest discrepancy in the stats In the first set alone our hitters would hit it out even though they had a great set. And SMU hitters would put it away even when it was way off the net hitting from the back line.

You probably should go watch the SMU coach interview during the game again. In a nutshell she liked her defense and as long as our hitters kept hitting around tge SMU blockers and out, she would not change it.

Not a good look for you going on a witch hunt with our first loss of the season.

We honestly haven't kept up with her personally since she graduated from LJ. She was an very sweet girl as we knew her. My wife was part of the coaching staff (specifically setters) at LJ both middle school and high school from 2016-2021 so she had Averi from 7th grade to 12th grade. I think these days with the open transfers, kids are just more willing to move if they have any dislike with the current program.

We really wanted to go tonight both to watch our Ags and see her play, but just couldn't make it happen between work and getting down from McKinney.

These starters are getting paid a fair bit of money. It's fine to criticize them when they don't play well. Agree we should praise them also. It sure looked like we were completely outmatched yesterday and our contact from service return to set to hit was not representative of the talent we have. If we play like that tonight, it will happen again. All starts with serve receive. Let's go Jamie and girls!

There were several players that had bad nights. I thought I made that clear. You don't lose like we did bc of one player.

I also pointed out defense was not the primary reason. It was our hitting and attack errors.

If you are going to criticize, at least make it just or correct. When one does not, it looks like an agenda or playing favorites.

And the whole they are getting paid so I'm justified line always cracks me up. If that's all you got to justify your actions, that's telling. It was our first loss and we have people acting crazy.

I mean with Taylor going crazy on soccer threads, at least we had a bad season last year.

Just a hitting problem. What I saw was Maddie running all over the court in the first two sets trying to set…which isn't a good recipe. Let's hope it's better tonight. Vice versa…Avery Carlson wasn't scrambling last night and she delivered to her hitters much more efficiently. That's the toughest return of service game I've ever seen from us. We will get it fixed.
