Fall camp starts – Football season has started for 1-4A schools and 5A and 6A schools who did not have spring practices. Fall camp began on Monday for conditioning, with helmets the only equipment allowed. The first day of full contact is Saturday, Aug. 9. These schools are also allowed two scrimmages before the start of the season. Fall camp starts for 5A and 6A programs who had spring practices on Monday, Aug. 11, with Saturday, Aug. 16, serving as the first day of full contact.

Decisions on the way – A few top national prospects have decisions coming involving Texas programs. Today at 2 p.m. CT, 2027 Savannah (GA) Benedictine Military five-star defensive end LaDamion Guyton‍ will announce his decision. While he has not named a list of finalists, his offer list includes top programs from coast to coast, and Texas Tech has been a popular pick as decision day grows close. Friday at around 6 p.m. CT, 2026 Leakesville (MS) Greene County wide receiver Jase Mathews‍ announces his decision between Texas A&M, Auburn, LSU and Ole Miss. Then on Tuesday, IMG Academy edge Jake Kreul‍ plans to announce his decision between Oklahoma, Ole Miss and Texas.

New name to know

ATH Carson LaCombe‍, San Antonio (TX) Pieper – 2028

At 6-foot-4 and 195 pounds, LaCombe is a Swiss Army Knife on the field. He played in the slot, outside and even at wildcat quarterback as a freshman at Whitehouse.

At receiver, he plays with a physicality and attacks the ball as he bodies opponents. His 33-inch vertical leap and ability to locate the ball make him a threat in jump ball threat in key situations, and he prides himself on being an explosive, versatile threat on the field.

Over the years, LaCombe has played running back, quarterback, defensive end and receiver, and he counts Julio Jones and Brock Bowers among his football role models due to their route running and big-play ability at receiver.

College coaches are already taking notice. Offers have already arrived from UTSA, Utah, TCU and Mississippi State, and he camped at TCU, Texas Tech, Mississippi State and Florida State. Interest has come from Texas Tech and Florida State, and he already has plans to visit Mississippi State and Florida State this fall.

In addition to football, LaCombe also plays basketball and competes on the track. He is a forward on the basketball court, and during track season, he posted personal bests of 11.07 in the 100m, 22.04 in the 200m, 6-foot in the high jump and 21-2 in the long jump.
