A&M soccer travels to Auburn, hosts No. 9 Arkansas this week

Key notes from G Guerrieri interview

• Everyone is walking with a little pep in their step on campus for Mike Elko and the guys.
   
• It’s soccer. You can play really well and not win. A lot of it was... We talk about dominating the end zones or the last 20 yards of the field. We created good scoring opportunities, but they scored on theirs. The first goal they scored was on a corner kick. That was the first time they have scored on a set-piece all year. The second one was a 50-50 ball, just at the edge of the box. The girl hits and probably over the seats, takes a deflection, and the bottom drops out, just underneath the crossbar and score.
   
• The third goal was a great goal. Great setup, great buildup and really precise in the way that they finished. Hats off to them on that. Their defense was great. We put ourselves on the doorsteps, but we didn’t kick the door in. That’s been a big emphasis for us in training this week.
   
• With a team, we cannot assume what the next person is going to do. Just to make those roles a little more clear. I feel confident. The bad news is that we play two more really good teams. Auburn, whose playing really well. We come home on Sunday. It’s against No. 9 Arkansas. Both these teams are going to test you.
   
• On Friday night, we were disappointed. We keep setting these things up and keep missing them. After Sunday night, I felt really encouraged. We need the outcome to happen. The process is working fine.
   
• Against Auburn, you’ve got to be on point. The timing needs to be on point. We have to make more decisive decisions in the type of runs we make off the ball to make it easier on the ball.
   
• Turn It Gold is our charity game. It is Childhood Cancer Awareness month. The color for that is gold. The Arkansas game is a big game, no matter what happens. This team is the type of team that is going to build up. This is their first year for our players against Arkansas.
   
• Turn It Gold is a foundation started by two Aggie moms. Angela Dina’s son was dealing with cancer. We wanted to do something. Over 90,000 kids die from childhood cancer. We’ve been able to raise money for this game. You can purchase a game-worn jersey after the game.
   
• Turn It Gold is a non-profit. One hundred percent of the proceeds go to specific projects to fight childhood cancer. 7:00 p.m. on Sunday.
