Key notes from G Guerrieri interview
- Last game, we played No. 2 in the RPI, Tennessee. We outshot them. They get one-half chance, she hits it in the far corner, and it catches us there. We missed three or four golden opportunities. Before that, we outshot No. 7 Arkansas, and we held them to one shot, but we lost 1-0.
- You lose 1-0 at TCU, which at that time was No. 4. So, it’s not like we’re playing bad teams, but it’s a deal where we are playing with these guys, and putting ourselves in these positions where we are winning the game, it’s just that we haven’t won the game. It’s a learning process. If it were easy, everyone could do it. We have players who are special, and they’re learning to play with each other. It’s time to get it done. No better time to get it done than this week, when Texas comes to town.
- I would put the way that we defend up against anyone because we are going up against anyone and really shutting them down. I do feel really good about it.
- One of the keys for the game on Thursday, when the Longhorns come to town, is that they have two really special players. Their system is about getting the ball to those two special players. We have to make sure not to get isolated in space against those guys because they are really good. It’s a matter of team defending. It’s now got to go to the whole team with how we transition, how we get into the attack and how we finish our chances. We have had a great session so far this week. Hopefully, we get a good crowd.
- We’ve done well against Texas in my career. We didn’t win last year. The team last year psyched themselves out before the game even started. I don’t think that this will be the case for this year.
- The challenging part right now is not scoring goals. If you are a baseball player, when you’re not hitting well, you’re not picking clover leaves. It’s about getting our process back down. We have to do the right things in striking the ball.
- This weekend, you can turn those horns upside down. I think it's important that people understand history. I love the fact that there are whys to everything. There are “Whys?” to Texas A&M. There’s a reason why we are the biggest school in the country. People want to come be a part of something bigger than themselves.
- Every Wednesday, we are at Rudy’s BBQ. Coach Mike Elko is at 8 p.m., and we are the appetizer. Come out and meet some players.
