Key notes from Brian Kortan interview

• We knew going in that it was going to be a fall of growth. We had some big guys to replace. We got some good guys in the program. If you move up chairs, it takes a little more. It’s not just responsibility, but performance and responsibility for that performance. Fortunate to have some really good guys. I think they got their footing there. In the second half of the fall, we played more sound and really performed at their level.
   
• I mean, obviously, like Aaron Pounds did a great job, he won the first tournament out of the gates and had a really sound fall. Wheaton Ennis was probably two rounds from having a really good fall as well. Those guys stepped up chairs a little bit, and we added some faces. We knew it was a different deal.
   
• Matt Fast is the golf nerd, and I am old school. We really enjoy being a part of the build and helping the guys reach the level they can. We embrace it. We recruit to it. So far, we have gained traction in that, and our guys accepted it.
   
• It was nice to share the groundwork that you are laying this fall is taking hold. It was a two-shot victory on paper. We were 12 holes through the third round, and we had opened a 10-shot lead. We’ve kind of taken control of that golf tournament. Pounds and Ennis would have not only won individually. We are growing and seeing that the foundation is getting more stable.
   
• Golf is different than every sport. Sometimes, it’s 12 hours. I am certain they get tired of me. There is stuff that we have to put on our players to maintain our culture. It’s golf. It’s school, whereas if you’re playing another sport, you might work out. 
   
• Pounds has been on a steady growth. He is a wonderful Aggie. Ennis works. We rely on these guys to step up. When they are good, we are good. They know that.
   
• Jaime Montojo is fun. He’s been riding the rollercoaster. He is solid for us. Kris Kuvaas is a great kid. He transferred from Pepperdine. It’s a little different here.
   
• We get right back on the horse in the middle of January.
