Key notes from Gerrod Chadwell interview
- A lot of great things happened this week in Waco. We got to drive there all together and compete. Everyone has to go and play as we go into the offseason. It was nice to see everyone get reps. Wherever we get sent in May will determine if we get to compete for the national championship. This experience was invaluable.
- You play a practice round at 80 degrees with birds chirping. The next day, there are no birds, and the wind is blowing 25-30 mph. At Ridgewood, there are a lot of topography changes. So to hit those shots, it bodes well for us in May when Ridgewood is a regional site. Who knows what can happen then? We beat a very good Baylor team. They are tough to beat on that golf course. A lot of great things this week.
- Regionals is the most stressful of the year. Everybody has the same chance. We have won four tournaments this semester, but none of them matter once you get there. For us to have seen that venue can only help us because most other teams will be going in there blind.
- Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio always brings her best, regardless of circumstances. For the young ladies, that wasn’t a really strong field. They could look at it like, “What is this day worth?” But they played great. They needed to play great. We had a lot of Ags watching us. We finished on some of the toughest holes. Louise Reau made a great shot against the wind. Brynn Kort did the same. It went all the way down to the finish. To put that afternoon round together under those conditions, plus being down five strokes, shows how impressive that round was.
- Individuals compete unattached to the team, but they represent A&M. They get some reps and get in the flow of what we do. That was some of the most playing time our players got to compete. It will really help us in the offseason to get prepared.
- We get to have a visitor in town that we are excited about. We get to dive into the young lady's offseason plan. For three weeks, we have an offseason, then we have time individually with them. It gives the team a chance to take a breath because we have been working nonstop. They played a lot of summer golf, too. Hopefully, they get to be normal for a bit. They deserve that too. Package all that together, starting in January, we will be ready.
