Entry fees are cool but what about travel expenses to tournaments? Flights, hotels, etc. Are they covered by A&M or are the players (player parents !!) responsible for that?

Living expenses and travel expenses have to be covered. A college player has her living expenses covered but travel expenses can add up quickly. I can easily see a college covering travel expenses for a few pro tournaments each year, for top players.

in the event that A&M is covering a tournament for one of our players, we will send a coach with them. All of their expenses will be paid for (entry fee, hotel, food, etc.) however the girl doesn't get to keep any of the money earnings she is awarded. With that said she gets all the ranking points she earns, the experience, and a coach courtside for her matches. Since college players cannot make a profit form their matches this is the preferred option by the girls.

I recall reading in the last year that a college player can keep up to $10k of her winnings. I wondered, IF this is the case, if the player simply turns over the winnings to her school's tennis program since they paid her expenses. To do so might even be part of her contract. I would certainly do that if I was in that scenario.

Regardless, only a few more hours until the tournament in Houston. Will we see any of the new players? I hope so!

to my knowledge no. And previously mary was the only one playing in good enough tournaments to make it worth it. otherwise it was a bigger hassle in the finance side to deal with all that.

Anyone hear anything about the match time(s) at Rice? Hopefully a press release will be posted today AND that there is a video link. The Rice courts have cameras (the main courts) so hopefully there will be video. Live updates would be cool, too, but having video would be much better. Thanks!

Interesting to see the flight 1 and 2 singles. From watching film I would have expected Perelman AND Stromquist ahead of Martinez but film doesn't show all.

Anna looks really tall next to Vi but she is only 5'8".

Glad the scores started working. I was watching Tilde more than Vi since I saw Vi earlier. When the score started working for Vi's match it was 6-2 but not sure WHO had 6. Watched the next game and ... she is ahead.

Hopefully they will get the names and points working.

!! Warning - minimalistic and from an amateur's point of view !!

I had problems with PlaySight toward the end and missed some of it. Did not get to see any of Avery's match and the last half of Anna's singles match. Do not get a chance to see Avery very often so missing her match was disappointing.

But what I did see the new girls looked good overall. Good debut in Maroon and White. Some great shots and some mistakes. Saw a lot of talent.

Vi is a Senior and I expected a lot out of her. She and Freshman Anna looked good in doubles and played well together, especially since it is the first tournament as a pair.

The other Freshman, Tilde, looked good. She played very well for a Freshman, in my humble opionion.

No future predictions for the two Freshman but can't wait to see more of them!

You reported well. Stromquist is solid! I've watched some of her matches prior to coming here; she hits well off of both sides and is a very smart player.

Thanks! Smart is a great descriptive for Tilde's play. She caught her opponent off balance and going the wrong way many times. Some great shot locations.

I think our coaching staff made some great choices with the new players.

At least I got to see each of the new girls in action yesterday so that's cool even though might not see much of them until the Spring semester.

Anyone know how the Aggies did at Rice yesterday? Overall? I have not seen anything. I suppose all the coverage is geared toward action at Cary.
