There's always a ton of Star Wars news out there, This thread just isn't fun anymore because there is so much negativity if everything doesn't live up to everyone's unique standards of perfection. You post news about any project and all those who didn't like the last installment feel the need to remind you they didn't like it repeatedly and thoroughly.

I'd counter that and say the Star Wars prequels are really the tragic story of Kenobi. And I'd go even further and say George Lucas was really scrapping the bottom of the barrel and totally ripped off Julius Caesar by likening Obi Wan to Brutus. There are of course a few tweaks he made here and there, but once you see that Obi Wan IS Brutus, you can't really unsee it.
Even though he had to be prodded (by most accounts), Brutus does deliver a stab to Caesar. Just like Obi Wan delivers the killing blow to Anakin. The relationships between Brutus/Caesar and Obi Wan/Anakin are inverted, but you cannot deny it is the same thing: killing the figure they love for the good of the Republic (both Roman and Galactic).
Brutus, while a senator, was an idealist and not a schemer like Cassius. This parallels with Kenobi who was thrust into politics on behalf of the Jedi Council's mandate to do good and protect the Republic. Neither wanted the power but were put in positions to be manipulated by the real power seekers. Brutus was manipulated by Cassius and the other conspirators while Kenobi was manipulated by the Jedi Council. Sure the Council was on the protagonist side of the story, but he was made go off on stupid side quests and they tried to get Anakin to spy on Palpatine through Kenobi.
The super cringey exposition is a direct callback to Brutus. Brutus tried to quell the Roman crowd with his justification for taking part in stabbing Caesar, and Obi Wan whined as he sentenced Anakin to a fiery death on Mustafar. "Anakin, you were the chosen one." Eyeroll.
Brutus killed himself after the defeat at Phillipi, and Kenobi killed himself spiritually by going as a hermit in hiding on Tatooine.
For these reason, I frame the prequels as the Obi Wan Kenobi story.

I completely forgot Gary Oldman was in that! Off to go find clips on YouTube now….
thank you. Kenobi splitting up Luke to live with crusty blue-milk drinking moisture farmers and Leia to be raised in the diplomatic lifestyle of Jimmy Smits on Alderaan was about as honorable as you could get in the wake of the Anakin fiasco to ensure the midichlorians of the bloodline survived.Claude! said:Mega Lops said:

Never saw season 1…
How was it?
How would this board rate it on a scale of "The Acolyte"being a 1 and "Empire Strikes Back / Rogue 1 / Andor"being a 10
I would probably say 6.5 to 7. Cool to have those characters in a live action, good performance from one of the antagonists, 1 or 2 really good episodes, but also lacking any emotional connection at times, and questionable story decisions.SpreadsheetAg said:Kate Beckett said:

those who watched rebels know exactly who you're referring to and I completely agree….CC09LawAg said:SpreadsheetAg said:Kate Beckett said:

Honestly, the decision they made with one of the main characters from Rebels turned me off to the show pretty much from the start and it took me a long time to even get this show to a "meh". I didn't finish the season, and Ahsoka is one of my favorite characters.
On the plus side, it did give us a really cool LEGO armor piece from one of the antagonists. So...yay?

As someone who's only watched a bit of Rebels (I know, it's in the queue) I'm assuming we're talking about Sabine's force sensitivity?

Man what a dumb and confusing plot choice. Made zero sense throughout and was so poorly written….

The biggest Rebels mistake was not having Vader kill Ahsoka. I will die on this hill.
