They showed the project Hail Mary trailer at CinemaCon. It looks great. They've expanded on the book quite a bit though so I'll be interested in the reaction.

Kinda hoping it is more true to the original book. than the Schwarzenegger version.

In the book it is more dystopian and the game takes place out in civilization at large not on some huge set. It's a lot less kitchy. No plot about a policeman being framed or anything. His daughter needs medicine and his wife has had to resort to prostitution. The volunteers are tested and if selected they are released with some money and a 12 hour head start as the Hunters then try to find him. They can go anywhere in the world and the goal is to survive some amount of time but his family gets a payment for every day he lives and sends in two videos to the studio for broadcast proving he is still alive.

He starts to try to reveal some truths behind the network and government but they overdub the videos he sends in. He uses disguises, bribes and sheer will (threat of a bomb for example) and survives longer than anyone has and the network makes him a deal to let him become lead Hunter as he has kidnapped the lead hunter.

Well I won't give away the ending but..... it's pretty dramatic. I hope they go there.

Haven't read the book but now I want to, that sounds fascinating.

Huge fan of Edgar Wright so excited to see him direct something that's going to get a lot of hype, super curious for the trailer.

I almost wish it was Frank Darabont. He's done three SK movies and been very true to the source material - Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile and The Mist. Most of those were more suspense and drama and not outright horror or supernatural. Sure there were elements of those in Green Mile and Mist. But more than anything those were character driven and suspense. The ending of The Mist was changed from the book. For the better I personally feel.

But I don't think he has done much in the last 10 years except he apparently directed a few episodes of the upcoming last season of Stranger Things.

The book was fantastic. I am hyped for this, it looks awesome.

Great book, great trailer! (Also, love that Harry Styles tune).

I was surprised at how much was revealed too. I was just expecting a teaser this far out, but that was a full on trailer. Maybe one or two plot points you wouldn't pick up on if you hadn't read the book. Of course the one big one at the end is impossible to miss.

Anyway, looking forward to it.

I really enjoyed reading this novel, and I agree it looks like they have done a great job in recreating the feel and vibe of the book. I was always wondered on how that were going to portray "Rocky".

Wow, I was very underwhelmed when I saw Gosling was cast (because it wasn't close to what I imagined when I read the book), but it looks like he nailed it. I'm really excited for this.

I loved the book and can't wait to see this one in theaters.

Thanks for the heads up on not watching the trailer if you want to stay fresh. I can imagine what they might have put out, and hope it doesn't take away from the experience for when people see the story for the first time.
