RUSH Fifty Something Tour 2026

Interesting! Only getting to Ft Worth in Texas but one of the dates is a Friday so I signed up for the pre-sale.

I saw Tab Benoit over the weekend. It was a great show, and he's a really good blues singer/player with a good stage presence. I'm just curious if anyone around here even knows who he is.

I remember Tab Benoit from 30 years or so ago. I can't remember if I ever saw him live but I've listened to his music back in the day.

Except when you get mad at them for singing about the wrong color of barchetta!

They're Canadian. They're probably drunk.

Not Lovett related, but I was watching some random food show in a hotel in St. Louis this weekend and it featured a burger from The Spot and the narrator said "Galveston is referred to as the jewel of the Texas Riviera". I nearly spit out my coffee laughing. I don't think I've ever heard someone refer to G-Town like that.

To make it concert related I am seeing Turnstile (with Amyl & The Sniffers) on Wednesday at White Oak. Only downside is I have a 5:30 am flight the next morning. ugh!

The other thing about Lyle Lovett that stands out in my mind is that his sets always seem a lot longer than other performers, sometimes pushing 2.5-3 hrs if I recall correctly.

Lyle not one of my favorites but I can respect the storytelling and voice. Lyle, Don Henley and Clint Black at Bass Hall in FW for Hurricane Harvey relief is still a Top 10 all time concert for me. Just hit after hit after hit in an intimate venue.

ACL 2025 fun as always.

Killers still a blast to see.
Saw Aggie Dylan Gossett both weekends. He was great and is coming into his own looking comfortable with a big audience.
Sam Barber good as always.
Briscoe was great at festival and after show. See them again this Friday!
Cage the Elephant was good the first weekend but went so Empire of the Sun the second weekend at the same timeslot and that was the show of the weekend for sure. Crowd was insane and show was nuts.

Just got back from ACL weekend 2 myself. Artists I saw:

  • ROLE MODEL (as required by a friend's daughter): decent pop with a bit of a country feel, but nothing special
  • Empire of the Sun - agree that this was the show of the weekend; electronic/rock duo with a really trippy stage show. Audience was super into it.
  • Hozier - I wasn't familiar with a ton of his work, but he was very good. I was pleasantly surprised by the guitar work.
  • Spacey Jane - good light rock, but nothing to write home about
  • Fujii Kaze - Japanese singer-songwriter with a very good kind of 80s j-pop style
  • Doechii - female hip-hop/rap artist; not my kind of music, but she brought a hell of a great energy and the crowd was really into it
  • Sabrina Carpenter - well-produced, well done pop show; the Austin crowd enjoyed her bringing out The Chicks for a couple songs
  • Wet Leg - pretty good garage rock; if I may body-shame a little bit, the singer is good looking but would be well-served to shave her armpits
  • T-Pain - he was okay; crowd was really into it
  • The Killers - hell of a closer; that Brandon Flowers is a rock star and he knows it. If not for Empire of the Sun, this would be my favorite of the weekend.
Hot and dusty all weekend, and a lot of gals not always wearing a ton of clothes, sometimes to my appreciation and sometimes less so. Lots of ass cheeks hanging out of shorts, cowgirl boots, and poorly thought out leg tattoos.

Went to ACL for the first time, had a great time and was 10xs better than the only festival I went to previously.

I saw:
Spill Tab
Girl Tones
MJ Lenderman
Dr. Dog
Luke Combs

Marina
Magdalena Bay
The Strokes
Last 15ish minutes of Sabrina Carpenter

This is the first time my wife and I have been to ACL, basically only went to see the Strokes. We bought the weekend passes last minute from a friend but were honestly so beat that we skipped day 3 and headed back to Houston a day early. Had a rough/busy week leading into the weekend so we were already pretty tired before we even got to Austin on Thursday night. I was surprised at how much more ACL felt like the Houston Rodeo than it felt like the only other festival I've been to (Inaugural Astroworld). My wife and I both enjoyed it a lot, it was a fun laid back experience. We're both in our mid twenties and seeing so many families and older couples without kids was kind of strange from a concert going perspective for us. Just goes to show the kind of vibe ACL offers I guess, which is cool. Absolutely loved it and we will be returning if able.

Paul Oakenfold Sunday night at Houston HOB

I assume I'm on my own for this one. Any of y'all showing up?

I last saw Oakenfold at a warehouse in Miami probably in 2001. The Internet has no record of this show ever happening. I guess I'd have to go back and check old credit card statements or something.

Turnstile on Wednesday was hella fun at White Oak. I didn't make it in time for the first two openers but just in time for Amyl and the Sniffers. They put on a great show and the lead singer is a rock star. It was sold out and packed and when Turnstile came on it went crazy. Old school mosh pits and crowd surfing. Just a ton of energy and they sounded great live.

I'll be there in the balcony. I've only seen Oaky live here in Houston several years back but I have all his albums from his Trance days. Will see him again at Dreamstate So cal next month.

Never seen Crystal Method live. Really interested to see if they still play live music or just DJ.

I didn't know anything about The Crystal Method but, I did enjoy it.
Kind of funny that it's just one guy who is my age (b. 1970).

That dude played some massive bass - assault is the only way I can think to describe it - that vibrated body parts while I was sitting there in my seat in the balcony. Back of my ears, nostrils, ribs, even my nuts. I have no idea what frequency or how many decibels. It was like a controlled explosion.

Also, lesson learned about the balcony seating at HOB in Houston, sitting low (row 3 in my case) along the aisle, your vision is partially blocked due to the high rails at the end of the stairs.

I enjoyed Paul Oakenfold's set but I can imagine how much better it would have seemed after 12 drinks.

I was surprised how many younger girls were in attendance and dancing. I was also surprised how many guys were there who were my age or older. But, Oakenfold himself is 63 so, I guess it makes sense.

If I was to see Oakenfold again, it would have to be in Ibiza or something.

Enjoy your trip out to Long Beach for Dreamstate. If you want to watch the A&M game vs. Samford at a 9am PST kickoff, the local A&M Club will be at Panama Joe's. They usually have a mimosa special.

We were row 2 on the aisle on the right side. Near the drunk dude that kept leaning over the railing making everyone think he was going to fall, then he just passed out.

Crystal Method was big in the 90s. They used to do live production concerts. I have to say, he was quite a bit better than Oaky was last night. He actually manipulated multiple tracks and did true mixing with some of his old tracks, and it's cool he is still repping the old breakbeat style even in his modern mixes. No one has really played breakbeat for like 20 years. Oaky played a couple of classics from the early 00s that were on his famous mix albums, but the rest was meh.

In dreamstate he will be playing all Trance, as will everyone there. Including Tiesto. Can't wait. We just might hit up Panama Joe's.
