I'm on the other side of fence.. this has zero old ghost to me.. this is straight pop/80s rock and looks like broadway.

It is definitely weird to actually look at the screen and see Tobias as the singer. I never could see him as all the other incarnations.

Did Ghost hide Steve Vai behind one of those masks? The lead guitarist flippin shreds in some of these songs (Umbra in particular).

Not quite! It's Fredrik Akesson from Opeth. He did the lead work on both of the last couple of albums.

yeh I still go when they come to town.

But man seeing them in early 2014.. small club; total mysterious vibe and aurora around them still; dressed as a pope, all black ghouls, no one knows who it is… that will always stick with me.
Plus they pretty much played every track from first two albums.

So glad there are people on TexAgs talking about Sleep Token. I was late to their party but I've been stoked for the new album and the three new songs have been a giant part of my spare time lol.

Some of the best stuff on the internet right now is non-metal (primarily rap) fans reacting to these new songs. It's a really fun way to relive hearing the songs for the first time.

Curious what the older metal heads think about Sleep Token. We call them metal but they blend so many genres. They may be the most musically gifted thing going right now with the way they mix genres, Vessel's voice and lyricism, and II's ability on the sticks.

My brother and I are hoping to do a destination to one of their stadium tour locations.

Ive been OBSESSED over sleep token for a year now. Absolutely love their new singles, Damocles might be my 2nd favorite song of theirs.

That's about when I became a big fan as well. I'm a huge modern metalcore fan, and for some reason, it took a long time for Take Me Back to Eden (the album) to grow on me. My simple brain just wanted more bleghs and breakdowns lol. Took a long time to appreciate the actual talent and creativity.

Any opera metal fans here? The soprano voice pairs well with metal.

I like Nightwish. Who else should I try?

At this point, I don't think they belong to the metal community anymore. Not that they did from day 1, but most people discovered them with the summoning, which is of course one of their overall heavier songs.

But they have way too much 'non metal' stuff to be stuck in the metal world, and it's clear that pop fans and non metal people are discovering them.

Heck, my kids are listening to them a lot. My 9 year old loves granite and emergence, and it's clear to me that that sound can easily win over fans of modern pop or r&b, even though it still can get heavy, it just blends so well.

Going to see Bullet for my Valentine, Trivium, and August Burns Res tonight in DC! \m/

These two tracks stand out to me the most on Skeleta.






the second one has so much old school ghost vibe. the up beat double time, the leads, the choral part fading in at the end.

These are both strong. I think my favorite of the non-released singles may be Umbra -- super excited to see that one live as I'm sure the dueling organ and guitar solos will be insane.



I think it's solid front to back and the only track that I could leave behind if necessary would be Excelsis, but even that has a lot of good moments. And I don't care what anyone else says, Missilia Amori is a fun song regardless of its subject matter .

My buddy got his digital copy today (he ordered merch from Australia that came with digital downloads) and the album is so peak. My fav tracks are Even in Arcadia, Damocles, and Look to winward.

This is giving dark fantasy romance vibes ona few songs too

I'm listening through it right now. I can see why you liked Look to Windward.

This album is just jaw-dropping. Especially the melodies. Excellent musicianship and a gumbo of styles are certainly impressive, but without songwriting, what have you got? These guys know what they're doing. Picking a favorite song is impossible thus far.

Just heard Gethsemane and it was a little Dance Gavin Dance-y at times. Not a huge DGD fan but somehow ST made it cool lol.

Thats what I love most about this band. Almost everyone has a different favorite song. That shows how good the songs are. Whereas most bands people usually like the hits but not with this band

Rumors circulating Sleep Token may be releasing a double album with the clues they've been releasing lately

Not only do they put out awesome music, they are elite at getting people to talk about them. Collabing with the metal weather guy was genius.

I have to know, is their fan base way beyond the metal community at this point?

I have never seen a metal band sell out an arena instantly, and then second hand tickets are several hundred for way upper sections. This has to be the work of pop fans.

I mean, yeh maybe metallica doing 40th anny or symphony shows.. those were super high demand, but those were 1 time only, one city only deals.

This ST tour is a full arena tour.. many cities (granted, very few in the south). I just don't see that demand happening with just the 'metal' fans, leading me to believe they have fully crossed over and loads of pop fans have embraced what they do.

I'm sure it goes beyond just the metal community now. I've seen tons of YT reactors from different genres, especially hip-hop, who started going through their catalogue over the past year and now are going through Even in Arcadia.

Also they now have my 2 year old who's musical journey started with Truck Bed by Hardy. So they are also big in the toddler nu-country scene.
