One thought about the audiobook (regular). I have been listening at 2x which is perfect because I already read it, and this is just to catch up for book eight (Just have 7 now). If I had never read it, I would probably do 1.5. At 2x, Carl's speech sounds like it is regular 1x speed (unless he is panicked and yelling), Donut is fast, and Samantha is blazing fast and can barely understand her. The rest are brisk but very understandable. Yes I know this is a function of each character's speech rate. However, when (rarely) I bump it down to 1x speed, Carl's .......... speech.......... is........... painfully......... slow............. It............. drives......... me................. cra..........zy.

I have wondered if they did it on purpose to make a 15 hour book 25 hours, like James Patterson makes three page chapters with a page between them and start the new chapter halfway down the page, or me in high school cheating margins in 2 inches.

Look I listen at 1.4x speed on podcasts. When I watch normal speed say on YouTube it is weird

In other words, this is in you going 2x speed you psychopath

I only went up to 1.5x. I would increase it by a little at a time and listen for a week at that speed before going up more.

I'm thinking that I want to hear the original last chapter, then download the version with the revised last chapter. Thoughts?

There is no content difference. Apparently it was just some spacing of pauses. I just finished the audiobook. Really enjoyed this one.

Just finished the audio last night. That ending is nuts.

Same. I literally had to re-listen to the last two chapters or so again to really take it all in. Hard to predict anything in this series but this ending totally shocked me.

Thought this was a cool crossover I never expected.

This Youtuber is a professional singer and analyzes music and singers. Her content is great and really focuses on the abilities and science behind the human voice. Love her work.

Anyhoo, she did DCC and Jeff Hayes!

If you want to learn some of the nitty gritty behind it all, a great watch here.

I am an ebook reader first but have started going back through the audible books. Jeff Hayes is seriously one of the most talented voice actors out there and I am surprised he is not a bigger part of the cartoon and dubbing community

I wasn't the biggest fan of this book, it felt very disjointed with the races

But that last 3rd of the book, that was greatness. Like wtf.

I wasn't sure how he was going to finish this series in two more books but suddenly it makes a lot more sense

Welp, I preordered the 8th book and got it in just fine but then my sister wanted to reread them all and made me join her. Which I did happily. Love this series so much and I HAD forgotten a good chunk of stuff I wanted to refresh before I dove into B8.

However, this is the first time I have been reading the hardbacks and I had no idea they had extra filler at the end. The Pineapple Cabaret stuff. That was not in the original paperbacks, ebooks, or audio all of which I have consumed.

Neat addition and wondering where it is all going…

(No spoilers pls, obviously)

Starting up Gate of the Feral Gods.

I loved the books. Audio booked them all. My only small annoyance was "showed his teeth". Like all the time.

I don't even know what this means. I read 1-7 kindle, then audio booked 1-7 to remind me everything leading up to 8. Just started 8 this morning and just started 1st race, but I actually like the vib and structure so far.

I don't recall anything about "showed his teeth."

Googled it, I think it is a book 9 thing and possibly a spoiler, so nevermind.

I was evidently on crack last night and conflated DCC and Dresden files. Yikes!

I read the first 20% of 8 and put it down. I couldn't get into the race setup and the general Carl, Donut, dungeon AI schtick is starting to get worn out for me.

I just binge read Primal Hunter(LitRPG) and may just need a break.

Primal Hunter 14 comes out on Audible on Wednesday.
Just finished DCC 8 and am listening Dresden Outlaw to get me to Wednesday.

I did a trial of kindle unlimited and got through all 16 this month. It's well written as far as LitRPGs go and is a very entertaining story.

I'm interested in Prinal Hunter, but DCC is currently the only litrpg I know and I'm obsessed with it. Reading another feels like cheating on it

I've read quite a few of them. DCC came along and broke the genre completely. As in nothing comes close and really highlights how bad some of them really are in comparison. Even the "lauded" ones.

DCC pretty much had any LitRPG I've tried since look like amateur hour. The 'Play to Live' series was my introduction to the genre, so I still have a soft spot for it.

I would say that I have read (actually listened to) a ton of LitRPG and I have DCC rated as A+

But there are several that I consider A level that I thoroughly enjoyed:
Primal Hunter
Ripple System
Good Guys/Bad Guys
He who fights with monsters

I finished DCC8 and the new Primal Hunter just dropped today so I will be working through it and then beck to running through more of the B level options while I wait for new A level book to come out.
Or Dresden or Bobiverse or Expeditionary Force (Columbus Day) or Demon Accords...

Same.

My progression has been Cradle -> DCC -> Primal Hunter.

DCC 1-7 were awesome.
Really enjoyed Cradle and Primal Hunter(so far).

I feel like this is the first book where the floors aren't such a big impact. Like they are a minor vehicle (no pun intended) to move the larger story forward. Every book before this the floors seem to have a much bigger impact on the entire story.

Yep, Cradle, Divine Apostasy and The Completionist Chronicles are 3 of my top favorite cultivation series. Beware of Chicken and Heretical Fishing are great too.

My first was actually the Awaken Online series. Saw an ad for it on Amazon during Thanksgiving years ago and bought the Audible book on a whim and here we are now with a Audible library 1300 strong and growing lol

Primal Hunter is…ok. The first book drug on way too long. I think I made it through book 3, took a break, and haven't gone back.

I gave up on HWFWM. Main character is beyond annoying.

I really enjoyed the Noobtown books by Ryan Rimmel. Great world building and fun.

I haven't given up on it, but you either love him or hate him. Wish he would just become the villain already.

Yea, Noobtown and Cradle is what I got my friend hooked on LitRPG with and then gave him DCC for his next series and Good Guys/Bad Guys for his current he is on now. Hes getting spoiled with cherry picked series. lol

The Big Three as most would count them for the longest time were Defiance of the Fall, He Who Fights With Monsters, and Primal Hunter.

Primal Hunter was the best of them but I kinda burned out. I was waiting for book 8 to release and then just never picked it back up and haven't missed it since. He who Fights is awful. DotF also went off the rails super hard and became a convoluted mess super quick.

Haven't tried Cradle yet. Not the biggest fan of cultivation really but I'll give it a shot at some time. Mage Tank has been the next best thing I have found in terms of character work. It's honestly pretty damn good and approaches DCC IMO.

Oh wow. An OG up in here! Awaken Online was great for its time. Still need to read its offshoots. I got into this genre with the Dungeon Lord series years and years ago. Wraiths Haunt I think the series is called now. It was one of the very first if I am not mistaken. I don't even remember how I found it. Think it was just a random "suggested reading" list on Amazon I clicked on.
