Three episodes in and the closest thing this can be compared to at this point is Apple's other feel-good sports series, Ted Lasso. Which I liked fine enough, but gave up early in season two. Honestly - and I know not everyone's going to agree - I like this a lot better. It's Ted Lasso by way of Tin Cup, with a splash of Cameron Crowe, and way more my vibe in general.
I wasn't even looking for a new series - I have a bunch of movies I need to catch up on - so this one was already on a short leash for me. On top of that, there was something about the teen character I found somewhat annoying in the trailer. But by the end of the pilot he and the show completely won me over, to the point where I immediately knocked out the next two episodes (all three released this past Tuesday).
Overall, the cast is fun, the plot is engaging, and the whole thing has a nice, relaxed charm. In fact, it's kind of the perfect summer show, one I'm now actively looking forward to following over the next couple of months.
