The last few episodes really sold it for me. I'm excited to see what direction they go in S2. Return of Pryce Cahill?

How the hell is Pryce going to earn back his $100k?

This show isn't interested in those kinds of questions.

The $100k was just a plot device.

I enjoyed the finale, a little predictable but it got me in the feels and I liked that they didn't let Santi run away and win his first pro tournament. You saw the dad issues coming but I loved the conversation Mitts and Pryce had about it and how Pryce creatively created the delay (the groundskeeper was a fun little side character too).

As for the 100k, he's taking a percentage of Santi's winnings so he's got a chance to make that up fairly quickly.

He can be an amateur and still win $$?

Isn't the whole point of him playing the tournament to go pro?

He was listed as an amateur on the leaderboard.

Short answer is Santi didn't win any money.

Right, that was the big stage to show what he can do. But Pryce is coaching him with the intent of taking him pro.

Also have to imagine he'd land a lot of sponsors after a nationally televised performance like that.

Maybe. But the show doesn't really state that Stick is in line for a cut of Santi's endorsement deals.

And they ended the show without really discussing the point further.

But I don't think Stick did it for the money. He did it for the "love of the game" and for "closure." Him hitting at the end was to show he got back to playing for himself.

Ultimately, the $100k was just a device to create tension and feel good resolution in the first 3-4 episodes and once that purpose was complete, it was just dropped. I think there are going to be a lot of fridge logic moments with this show.

Maybe not but not really relevant to the bigger point either way. I get that you have some issues with the show and that's your prerogative, but you're kind of ignoring logic as well as things explicitly spelled out in the show.

While the emotional heart of the story is with Pryce taking on this father figure role to fill the gap of never getting to see his son grow up, he's not going to give them 100k just because he believes in him. And in the early conversation Pryce has with Elena about taking Santi on the road, the deal they make is that they'll split his winnings 70/30.

I'll confess, that I didn't quite remember the winnings split. But if we want to get to the nitty gritty. Santi couldn't have any winnings from the PGA Tour event since he was an Amateur and there is a cap on the winnings on the other tournament.

The cap on amateur prize winning on other golf events of $1,000:

https://www.golfmonthly.com/features/is-there-an-official-limit-to-cash-prizes-for-amateur-competitions-find-out-if-your-golf-club-is-breaking-the-rules

Not to mention how long is Stick going to get to collect "winnings" and was the deal ended when he let the Dad on the bag or Zero on the bag or the end of this road trip? The show doesn't really care about these issues.

Another version of this show would have been concerned about the economics of what is happening. But it isn't this version of the show. In light of these economic issues, it casts a different light on the other character's outrage that Stick was trying various side hustles to make money.

I agree the show's purpose is that Santi filled a void in Stick's life and Stick filled a void in Santi's life. And to a certain extent the show worked on that level. Which is why I think the show is okay. Although I feel like the theme of hitting a golf ball for just yourself didn't crystallize until the end. I can agree it did build towards it throughout the show and that moment didn't fully crystallize to Stick until Santi was presumably where he was when he quit on golf, so it does receive a checkmark.

My frustration with it is that it could have been great, but just wasn't.

I enjoyed the season overall.

My only pet peeve was the terrible golf outfits worn by Santi.
The hat didn't fit him right and his huge baggy pants were horrible!

I hope maybe they clean that up some next season and make him look a little more professional.

Those pants drove me crazy too! It was as if Zero picked them out for him.

I mean, they could've done a show that delved more into the economics of it, but why? It's not especially relevant to the plot at this point as he's not yet making much if any money and doesn't add much to the story.

For me all of Stick's hustles shows that he's still stuck in his old mindsets as well someone who doesn't really have a reliable income source, something the other characters really can't relate to (or in Mitts' case someone who's grown a bit tired of it at times).

To each their own, but I don't have any issues with how they addressed any of those issues on the show.

It's a bizarre hangup.

Stick has a deal in place that will make him good money if Santi becomes a successful pro. It was established early. Thats was his initial motivation.

There's no need for him or Santi to make any money off the final tournament. That's not the point. The point was to get him into a legit tournament and let him prove he's got the chops. That's going to get him noticed an open doors. That's it

He blew his chance on the amateur circuit by melting down. That's what necessitated hustling their way into the pro tournament.

Not all that complicated.

Is anyone hung up on it or was just a question asked?

The issue of the money isn't really my hang up on the show. But I think it is illustrative of my issues with the show.

Respectfully, I don't think anyone would really give a $100k on the oral promise with no real defined terms.

Could Stick make money on Santi in the future? Absolutely. Did the show actually show Stick recouping his money? No. Or an actual pathway? No, just as people noted an implied path. In fact, Stick basically got fired twice in this show. Once for Zero and once for the Dad. Either of which could over come a verbal claim for winnings that are going to occur in the future.

But I agree the money isn't the point of the show.
