This show isn't great. I'm only a few episodes in, but it's pretty dang predictable, the dialogue sets nothing up, the characters are pretty unlikeable.
Owen Wilson is a loveable loser, but isn't very loveable. His constant pleading with everyone about everything is too much. His ex about the house, the boy to play golf, the mom to let him, the ex-caddie to come with them, etc etc. The writers need better dialogue, than to simply have Owen Wilson talk everyone into everything, every time.
The boy is a cocky brat. He's supposed to have given up the game because of his dad. I'd understand remorse, or an internal struggle with the decision to play...but instead, he just acts like God's gift to the world, and is uber-unappreciative of all Owen Wilson is doing for him. I'm sure they'll have some touching moments in the future, since the show seems predictable in that way, but man he's unlikeable early on.
I think my expectations are too high, since people said it was like Ted Lasso. I'll give it another episode or so to see if it reels me in, but this show doesnt hold a candle to Ted Lasso. So far, I really dont think there is much of a comparison between them at all. They both revolve around sports, but that's about it.
