Considering a decent amount of posters are finally seeing this tonight via early screenings, I figured I'd go ahead and get a spoiler thread started. I'm not seeing it until Saturday night myself, so I'll see you guys back here then.

That was really well done. Loved seeing Superman grow throughout the movie and how everyone interacted with each other. There was no mistake about this being a Superman movie, in spite of all the characters and cameos.

Kara looks FANTASTIC, by the way. Can't wait for Supergirl now. They seemed to have nailed that character as well.

Justice Gang and Metamorpho were great. Lex was ****ing incredible.

The "immigrant" comment was complete misdirection. Anyone who doesn't see this movie because of that is REALLY missing out!

There was nothing political (at least real life political) about this.

My 11 year old said the following as we walked out of the XD auditorium, "That was the best movie I've ever seen." Next to Superman, Krypto was his favorite character...Krypto alone will put butts in seats this summer.

I thought the movie was great which had a very strong and well assembled cast: Rachael was amazing and is by far the best interpretation since Margot Kidder. Jimmy may have been the best cast selection of them all...he was great! Lex...brilliant d*uch3...well done. And David was an incredible Superman. My only complaint would be i wish there was less cussing for the kids, but otherwise its a fun trip to the cinema.

There was a surprising number of squirrels represented in the movie.

The casting was spot on for the most part. I did not like Jor El. That seemed forced to me.

Really liked the Monkeys, Jimmy, Mr. Terrific and the Green Lantern and Superman of course.

My favorite scene was Superman drinking hot cocoa and talking with Lois.

I would not have seen the Supergirl before the last five minutes of this movie. I think that Millie Alcock will kill it in that one.

Perry White was awesome. (How long they been hooking up?)

I would watch a Cat Grant movie of her just plucking away all day. She was.........something else.

Completely unintentional on their part since this has all been baked in well before 2025, but i thought there were some obvious parallels between the pocket universe prison of Luthor's and the El Salvadoran prison Trump is/was disappearing people to.

I thought there was a decent amount of Russia/Ukraine and Israel/Palestine in there too, but honestly it made a lot of sense in the context of the story.

I don't think for a minute that either of these conflicts specifically had anything to do with the movie, though. One country has invaded another country MANY times in our history.

Just in my lifetime we have had:

Soviet Union invaded Czechoslovakia
El Salvador invaded Honduras
North Vietnam invaded Khmer Republic (Cambodia)
India invaded Pakistan
South Vietnam/U.S. invaded Laos
Egypt/Syria invaded Israel
Turkey invaded Cyprus
China invaded the Paracel Islands
Indonesia invaded East Timor
Morocco invaded Spanish Sahara
Syria invaded Lebanon
Somalia invaded Ethiopia
Israel invaded Lebanon
Uganda invaded Tanzania
Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan
China invaded Vietnam
Tanzania invaded Uganda
Vietnam invaded Thailand
Iraq invaded Iran
Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands
Iran invaded Iraq
Israel invaded Lebanon again
U.S. invaded Granada
India invaded Siachen (Pakistan)
U.S. invaded Panama
Iraq invaded Kuwait
Iraq invaded Saudi Arabia
U.S. and allies invaded Iraq
U.S. invaded Haiti
Eritrea invaded Ethiopia
Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi invaded the Congo
Pakistan invaded Kargil (India)
U.S. and Nato invaded Afghanistan
U.S., U.K., Australia, and Poland invaded Iraq
Russia invaded Georgia
Russia invaded Ukraine (2004)
And now these two invasions.

I get that, it's just the timing. I had no issues with it because they made it make sense within the context of the story and weren't heavy handed if that was the comparison they were going for.

The film did a good job showing a fully self assured man of power and then showing that come crumbling down as he is unmasked as the insane pos he is. Him shooting the falafel guy in cold blood. Imprisoning his exs in a pocket universe. His manic personality at the end. It was well done

I legitimately rolled my eyes at the first mention of Krypto being in this movie. But the first teaser featuring him made me think Krypto might not be terrible. And honestly, Krypto was my favorite part of the movie. That is saying something, because I loved everything about Superman. If I have any criticism, it would be the choice of music at the beginning of the end credits, but no, that actually fit with Clark's favorite band if I heard the lyrics right. The score was pretty good, though, with this new Superman theme mingling with the classic John Williams composition.

All that "this is political" turned out to be horse****, as I hoped it would. And admittedly, I laughed out loud at the line "conservatives and liberals both agree that Lex Luthor sucks".

The next biggest observation is they avoided the trap that Batman and Spider-Man movies tend to fall into - retelling what made these heroes. We did not need another Krypton explosion/baby Kal-El traveling to earth/ Smallville high school stuff, etc. They opened with Superman already having revealed himself, and with Lex Luthor ready to launch his nefarious scheme to rid the world of Superman. I loved that approach.

I don't think the grin left my face once while watching this one.

Yeah, i agree. It's almost like we skipped right to movie #2 in the sequence, not having to do the whole origin story thing.

I'm a bit of a dork with Superman lore. So there were a few things I had issues with. Don't like the whole Jor-El was actually evil bit. Most of the time, that is not the case.

Thought they gave the Kents a little too much simple farm folks vibe. Kind of felt like satire.

Lex's plan was a little too nuts with the letting the world be destroyed bit. And the keyboard monkeys were too silly for me.

That being said, I enjoyed a lot of it. Probably my favorite portrayal of the Superman character. Very earnest and hopeful.

Just got out. It was good! My only complaint was the part of the story where everyone turned against him after seeing what his parents said about taking over the world. It was an eye roll that no one disputed it, after everything he's done to protect the innocent up to that point. If this happened in the real world, people would say it was AI.

Just got out and I loved this movie. Gave Superman a lot of character that we didn't get to see with Cavil's portrayal.

For any die hard Superman comic fans I do have a question though. This version of Superman seemed much weaker than I'm used to in live action portrayal. Seemed like if he wasn't able to get to the yellow sun he was toast. Is that comic accurate? Does he really rely on the yellow sun to not heal him at that kind of frequency?

Eh Supe's power level varies from comic to comic. His body is a solar battery. Some writers make him able to break planets. Others have him significantly weaker. Gunn made a point that his Superman is a little weaker. Adds to the stakes I guess.

I am a Superman fan, and went in really wanting this to be good and to like it, but also super skeptical that Gunn could pull it off. I liked Guardians but then the shtick wore thin in 2 & 3 for me. He just has a tone that doesn't always work for me.

Despite being overly stuffed, this movie just keeps on charming you until you can't help but like it, IMO. What Gunn does right in all his movies is commit. I, too, rolled my eyes about Krypto, but Gunn is like, "we are putting Krypto in and committing to using him well." And it works! So much of the movie is like that.

Loved Corenswet as Superman. He was perfect. And Brosnahan as Lois is also perfect. The scene of her interviewing him is probably the best of the movie. It really sets the stage for the conflict of the whole movie so well. I would have loved more scenes of that nature.

Gathegi as Mr. Terrific kind of steals the movie and is the Superman sidekick I didn't know we needed.

Hoult as Luthor was good. I think his character was the biggest let down of the movie, tho. Since we don't get an origin story for anyone (which is fine), Luthors motivations and character get the short stick on that. We are kind of dropped into his plan and mania and don't really have anything to latch onto for him.

I also really liked how metahumans are old hat and their big battles are kind of boring to the people in that world. Makes me super intrigued on where the DCU will take that and also feels like meta commentary on super hero movies.

One of the recurring criticisms of Superman the character is that he is so strong that he becomes almost boring. As if there is nothing that he cannot defeat. I've never been a comics reader, but I do know his strength has been whatever the writers needed it to be. In that light I think Gunn made a great decision to portray Superman as he did, right there at the beginning with the opening setup words (3 minutes ago, he was defeated for the first time). Followed immediately by him crashing into the ice all bloodied and busted up. Right away you have to wonder what badass beat the crap out of Superman.

I thought the movie was kind of rough at the beginning. I get not wanting to do the full origin story, but for what felt like quite a while we had very little context about character motivation. They just relied on the audience already being familiar with Clark/Superman, Lois, and Lex from the comics and earlier iterations, and that only goes so far. For a Superman story to work, you really have to relate to Clark, and he was in Superman mode for most of the first act (even the first apartment scene when I guess he was technically Clark).

And then you introduce the broader and less well known DC characters, and again, I just felt like I needed more context when they were introduced.

That said, I enjoyed the movie more and more as it went on. I thought the scene in the apartment with the monster fight going on in the background was a really good turning point, the first proper Lois and Clark scene (ironically with him in the suit). And the action got more interesting as the context of it became clearer, rather than the "random monster fight as part of same vague Lex scheme" at the beginning.

I think the best character moments were Pa Kent pointing out that what Clark wanted his parents' message to say said more about him than what it actually said, and then what Clark tells Lex at the end about his humanity. Really well done.

Nicholas Hoult was a great Lex. Jimmy was well done. Could have used more Perry. Don't bring in Bunk Moreland and underutilize him like that.

I enjoyed it as it went on. Individually, I thought Lex Luthor was awesome. Superman and Lois were good.

Story wise it wasn't terrific. It doesn't strike me as a movie I'll repeatedly watch. I thought it was slow and rough at times. The parents in Kansas almost felt like a parody. I thought they made Superman far too weak. I really enjoyed the feel good ending and the Supergirl intro. Mister Terrific was great. The Green Lantern was funny but I thought how he used his powers was very underwhelming. I didn't mind that his parents weren't necessarily good, thought that was a good new twist that created a good plot point.

If Lex could clone Superman why not create an army of his clones? I thought the cloning thing was lazy writing and not well hashed out at all. I didn't think the story was completely smooth and again, just doesn't feel like a movie I can watch repeatedly like the best comic book movies.

I'd give it 3.5 stars out of 5 for me, personally.

Wow Superman was AWESOME. No lie I may have liked it better than any of them except Superman the movie and Superman II. We are in New York on vacation and just saw it on supposedly one of the best IMAX screens in the country and on IMAX man it was something. And as a Guy Gardner comics fan lol Nathan Fillion killed it. I really LOVED all the John Williams theme cues and I'm glad they finally made Superman be the true force of GOOD that he's supposed to be and not try to make him be dark and flawed like Batman. I found myself along with the crowd really totally engaged in the movie from start to finish which doesn't happen a lot. Loved the story, loved all the casting and just goes to show how dumb social media can be at movie "reviews" or comments about it or "what's in it" before anyone has even seen it. We loved it. Great movie.

That was an absolute blast. Been awhile since I've had that much fun in a movie. They nailed the casting all the way around. Corenswet did a great job. Brosnahan is the best live action Lois we've had. Only thing I missed was her calling him Smallville. Loved Krypto. I got an unruly dog like that

Nathon Fillion has to be one of those actors that probably just never caught the right break to really explode, but he's always been a favorite of mine.

Edi as Mr. Terrific was outstanding and the biggest surprise. Like others have said, he stole the show. Gunn has a penchant for nailing side characters.

Was not expecting to ever see Metamorpho in a live action film so that was a big surprise. CGI was a little janky during the pocket dimension stuff.

Will echo complaints that the Kents felt very much like an old school parody of whatever Hollywood thinks farmers and ranchers are. It's annoying.
