Finished all 10 and it's a bit of a mixed bag. None of the characters are particularly memorable but none are horrible either (except Esmerelda who is annoying and needs to be rewritten). On one hand I don't think I really laughed much but on the other hand I found myself looking forward to the next episode. Almost like a comfort food.

Overall I would say a B. I'll stick with it, but it lacks any breakout characters or major laughs.

I will say that I don't think the Mare/Ned romance works. I can see his attraction to her, but I don't why she would be attracted to him.

Esmeralda seems to be filling in for the Michael Scott type of character in that she is oblivious to how dumb she is, however she is so over the top that she seems like she's from the Parks and Rec universe more so than The Office. Parks and Rec felt like a live action cartoon at times with how almost all of the characters were Flanderized after the first few seasons. It doesn't fit with the other characters in this world yet. I enjoy her character but I can see how it will be annoying to many quickly as at the moment its a one trick pony.

I think that's part of the formula. The first several episodes of The Office were not super funny -- but once the characters were established the comedy was there.

Ned with his daddy issues in episode 7 were well done. It seems like the writers have taken pieces of Michael Scott and sprinkled them across several characters (For example, Ned with his insecurities and push to be a people-pleaser, Esmerelda with her obliviousness). Marv's secretary telling Ned to "fix it" was great.

"Comfort food" is a great description. I'm wanting to see what happens next. The show seems to have heart like The Office, and I think that's why I keep coming back.

Disagree with that, episode #2 is "Diversity Day", which is an all timer, followed by "Health Care" which is also great. Then "The Alliance" and "Basketball"

Finally finished the season. I want to watch it again. The longer it went, the more it came together. Ep 5-7 were strong. The catfish and manwipes stories were great. And Marv added a lot to the show.

Agree they took some of Michael's craziness and spread it around. Mare as Jim is an interesting twist. Esmerelda has funny moments but can be annoying.

For me, it seemed to start strong but has started to fizzled. But that's just me.

Agree - I never understand why people say that about The Office S1. While not as good as S2 or S3, its still really good.

I was not saying S1 of The Office was not good. I'm saying S1 was not "super funny." There were funny portions of S1, for example, the on-the-court scenes in "Basketball." But you said it in your post, "While not as good as S2 or S3..." that's the point I'm making. S2 and S3 of The Office was funnier than S1 because the characters were established. I think the really funny episodes of The Paper are to come.

I would say this opinion hold much more weight for Season 1 of Parks and Rec. It took them to midway through season 2, and finally brining in Ben and Chris to really find its footing.

Parks and Rec all had characters that were generally kind and likeable.

Flip that and you will have it right. The UK Office was almost unwatchable for me. Just didn't find it funny or interesting. Also never really cared for Ricky Gervais.

I thought it was pretty good for a modern sitcom. They need to tone down Esmeralda but the rest are good. The episode where they try out all the products was my favorite.

As an Office fan, I liked it. I loved Oscar's inclusion throughout. He was very well done. Some of the side characters are better than Ned and Mare at this point. They don't know yet what exactly they want those two to be, IMO. But it will come, it always takes a bit to nail these things down.

Overall I liked most of the stories although I thought Ned and Mare hooking up made zero sense (their relationship has had no consistency and I have no idea what the point was of having them kiss already), and the TTT winning the overall award in year 1 of Ned's leadership was really stupid too.

Esmerelda grew on me but she's still too much. Not sure if she has a future on the show or not. She did have some funny moments though.

As an A&M Journalism grad who has worked in newspapers and always loved them, I absolutely loved the show. Fun to see a comedy set in one of my favorite settings.

Overall, pretty good and I can't wait to see it become really really good.
