I had a Nasa geologist/asteroid researcher as a geology teacher. He walked the class through a history of the solar system with props. He passed around a vial diamond dust found in an asteroid. It originated from a supernova from before our solar system. Quite a thing to be holding in your hand.
No, I don't care what CNN or MSNBC said this time

If you want to get technical, practically every atom except hydrogen and helium are from supernova remnants. And them hydrogen and helium are from the big bang.

Glad to have Musk back at SpaceX doing spacey things!

True. But it was diamond dust though

S37 nearing completion (second to last V2 ship, would go in launch after this one), and a lot (of hardening/construction/changes) going on with respect to Massey's and the 2nd OLT at starbase, which is massively more 'armored up' vs. the current one. Clearly SpaceX isn't dialing back at all with investments/construction around Starship infrastructure.

Sounds like we should see a ship static fire on OLT1's Jerry-rigged stand this week, possible launch attempt next week.

S38 is what we really want to see more of 'in the wild' though, imho, and it might go pretty quickly after S37 from what we can see. S39 will be the first 'block 3.'

They're thinking S38 will static fire after S37 but before the S37 launch.

Posting because 'Star stool' made me laugh, more than any other reason. I would guess they won't try to fire this up until Wed-Fri.

So this JWST tracking an object headed towards earth is off limits then, or no?

Do tell. But it will be pretty obvious very quickly whether you're describing something JWST can even do...

Gilmour Space had their first launch in Queensland, Australia, today. Lasted about 10 seconds and made it to 100m before crashing and asplode.

Their 3-stage rocket uses hybrid fuels, will be interested to follow their progress (hopefully can get up there for their next launch too).

I don't know what a quantum inertial sensor is but I hope it works well.

Infrared is interesting. Similar wavelengths used in fiber networking and completely useless on earth outside of a fiber due to the attenuation though air.

Could make space lasers way cheaper if they can use some off the shelf parts.

Looks like the first test attempt with the janky setup on the launch mount might be a scrub for today. They were able to load propellant and now it looks like they're de-tanking. Still 3+ hours left in the window today so they might try again.

Also might be a range violation (boat).

90% favorable weather, 11:09 CST launch this am hopefully.

Still have to give SpaceX credit for the marketing too, rolling up in the blacked-out Tesla's.

Successful 1 engine static fire from the launch mount. Hopefully a 6 engine test tomorrow.

Been a bit since I watched an RTLS mission and the NASASpaceflight guys mentioned something was different about the reentry and landing burns? Anyone know what that's about?
nortex97

I didn't catch that, but note in this (large) ars technica update on funding/SpaceX/Nasa etc. that the current RTLS pads are not going to be used again, as Nasa is going to convert the landing pads for another launch provider (presumably BO?) and SpaceX will replace LZ1 and LZ2 with pads I guess on one of their own areas.
Quote:

Goodbye LZ-1
The Falcon 9's reusable first stage booster detached and returned to a propulsive touchdown at Landing Zone 1 (LZ-1) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, a few miles south of the launch site. This was the 53rd and final rocket landing at LZ-1 since SpaceX aced the first intact recovery of a Falcon 9 booster there on December 21, 2015.

On most of SpaceX's missions, Falcon 9 boosters land on the company's offshore drone ships hundreds of miles downrange from the launch site. For launches with enough fuel margin, the first stage can return to an onshore landing. But the Space Force, which leases out the landing zones to SpaceX, wants to convert the site of LZ-1 into a launch site for another rocket company.

SpaceX will move onshore rocket landings to new landing zones to be constructed next to the two Falcon 9 launch pads at the Florida spaceport. Landing Zone 2, located adjacent to Landing Zone 1, will also be decommissioned and handed back over to the Space Force once SpaceX activates the new landing sites.
"We're working with the Cape and with the Kennedy Space Center folks to figure out the right time to make that transition from Landing Zone 2 in the future," said Bill Gerstenmaier, SpaceX's vice president of build and flight reliability. "But I think we'll stay with Landing Zone 2 at least near-term, for a little while, and then look at the right time to move to the other areas."

The budget talk is interesting but we'll just have to see what congress/Trump do between now and Oct 1. Anyway, I guess all 6 engines did fire yesterday? Hopefully they next will do the same with S38 before disassembling the interim 'ship stool.'
