Israel and Jordan have started using a variant of the Air Tractor AT-802 I believe to shoot down drones. Slow flying prop plane that is cheap the buy and operate. The USA started using them for close air support in Afghanistan and their roll keeps getting more diverse.

Russia is definitely increasing their missile and drone attacks across Ukraine, several hundred a night. 400+ drones last night

What jet with "decent radar" did you have in mind?
I was thinking of a cost effective already in production prop plane with added avionics, etc with enough speed to deal with the slower drones that attack population areas away from the front.. Should be easy enough to fly that training is minimal, easy to maintain, and uses inexpensive weaponry. These drones fly at WWI speeds. The Yak 52 with backseat operator with a shotgun has shot down multiple drones in the Odessa area.

Your thinking of the A-29 Tucano that the Afghan Air Force received and was using after 2015.

Bold statement that may indicate a turning of US sentiments.

On Thursday, a Shahed-type drone flew into Lithuania from Belarus and crashed, but without cargo.

I think Putin may have F'ed up by following up a phone call with Trump with a huge attack. Comes across as a major F you to Trump and we know how mercurial Trump's emotions can be when he feels slighted.

Maybe some things long overdue can get done. I doubt Ukraine can regain all the ground at this point. It's just way too late. I'd start off by blowing that Kerch bridge to smitherines whether it's tactical or not. Best thing is to make it untenable for Putin at this point and then who knows. I'd love to read the post when he falls out of a window.

And African and Indian "students".

Trump is supposedly going to give a statement about Russia on Monday. I guess he finally ran out of two weeks to give and is actually getting pissed at Putin's obvious toying of him.

Russia also now has some growing bad juju with Azerbaijan with tensions growing from a multitude of things but mainly just stemming from Russia being Russia. Treating its satellites like subhuman garbage basically, for generations at this point. Putin and Russia by extension continue to find ways to alienate themselves from the world and judging from their history and culture, they probably embrace it. What a weird and broken people in all honesty.

Russia has been getting it handed to in Africa as well. I know they want their minerals but Russia seems to have their hands in too many pies to make any changes

Eventually the satellites are going to revolt because Russia is spread too thin and continues to take massive losses. As many of these revolting at once will help Ukraine immensely.

Only if there is another power willing/able to step in. Russia isn't a good patron but it is a patron and a lot of those places are pretty unstable. I would be surprised to see a ton of revolts all at once without some outside influence. You're not wrong that Russia is stretched thin however.

But the fundamental problem for Ukraine is their recruiting/drafting is half what Russia's is. They simply lack the sufficient manpower to be able to regain ground. That's the bottom line.

Regain ground yes, hold ground for the most part no.

USSR couldn't take and hold Afghanistan at its peak strength (neither could the US), because the cost in lives and resources is too great to sustain against an unwilling determined foe and makes no sense to a populace who doesn't care about what goes on across borders.

No populace does, unless being spun up by their local propaganda to deflect from internal problems and grift.

The war will end when Putin dies, is assassinated, or loses control of his mafia. The Russian army will cross back across the border as they did 1988, so that the men and resources tied up can focus on making something out of the clepto/petro/narco triumvirate that is "modern" Russia. That doesn't mean that Ukrainians won't suffer terrible losses in the interim - it will just never be anywhere near worth the collapse that is going to occur in russia in the post Putin era. He will not be remembered for reinvigorating the Russian empire but for leading it to its greatest subjugation and defeat since genghis khan.

Well, there were probably Nazi children and babies in those hospitals, and we all know every hospital has a bio lab of some kind on the premises. Weren't we told thats why Putin invaded in the first place?

It's either intentional or they have terrible targeting - I'm guessing the former.

Lol at mentioning it might not be intentional.

That's why Putin withdrew from that portion of the geneva conventions. Interestingly enough, it was done 5 months after Zelensky was elected.

Ukraine's minimum draft age is 25. That's not the choice of a country truly desperate for military manpower.

Rheinmettal seems to have the right approach on countering drones. There's too many ways to work around electronic interference and missiles are too expensive for mass drone attacks

Our force in practice is not adapting fast enough. Basically every CSTX I've had a hand in over the past few years has changed nothing and in a real war we will be lit the **** up by drones.

Whatever jackass wrote that manual should be prosecuted for premeditated murder. "UAS's fly very slowly"? Are you ****ing kidding? They're actually pretty damn fast and murder you of you aren't shooting the instant you see them.
GAC06
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It says they fly slowly "preventing current sensors from detecting them", as opposed to aircraft or incoming artillery that have radars designed for their detection.
ABATTBQ11

I get that speed a relative term in this context, but some of these drones are going 40-50mph when they are attacking a target. That will give you maybe a few seconds to react. They can also attack in groups and come from multiple directions at once while being coordinated from other drones. This response is kind of stupid and, if anything, should be changed to preparing for immediate engagement with a shotgun or other weapon.
