Down votes do not interrupt flow. Not the function. Never been on a site that uses that function? Not an erasures or banning feature.CDUB98 said:Philip J Fry said:aggiehawg said:
A downvote function might help. That could just be a response, not flagging or posting further replies?
Kind of not a fan of downvoting either. The culture of needing blue stars is bad enough as it is.
Not a fan of down voting either, as it would kill the flow of the conversation.
Agree. We were always respectful and caring.. I don't care what happens in your bedroom. Would you care about what happens in my bedroom?Ryan the Temp said:
It would be interesting if we could see on our account page some of our own statistics on posts deleted, bans issued, etc.
One bit of credit I will give mods is that they do lift bans from time to time when posters make a compelling case for the ban being a misunderstanding or disproportionate to the violation. I've had a couple of bans lifted early. I also appreciate the mods taking a somewhat more consistent approach recently toward posts that advocate violence.
On an aside, my favorite ban was when I got time off for using the phrase "bag of dicks" and pointed out to staff there were more than 600 instances of the phrase being used by other people, even after my post was deleted and I got banned. They did not end my ban early, but instead added "dick" to the word filter list.
There was "a day", in a post that is over 7 years old, that you didnt like. And your complaint made the thread worse off and over-moderated, in my opinion. And I also agreed with you, if it gets too much out of the spirit of the post, fine, get rid of it. There's a happy-medium between wiping off slapfights between users and simply replying to a post with a comment and being deleted because it's not just a meme or twitter link.aggiebq03+ said:BadMoonRisin said:plz no ban, and I understand the point of eliminating "discussion" on the funny political tweet thread since that is the point of the thread, but replying to someone's post is eliminated 100% of the time?AgGrad99 said:

i guess one user complained a few months ago that people would go on and on "for pages" [citation needed] instead of just being full of x links and memes, but that thread isn't as good as it used to be.
Sure, if a squabble or argument goes on "for pages", I get it, clean it up.
But not being able to even comment on the things being posted has made the thread lesser in my opinion.
again, not criticizing moderation, just saying. Most people used to use that thread like me -- posting something that might not deserve its own thread. If you dont like it, keep scrolling. It's not hard. Changing the mod policy on that thread because of a single complaint from a single user that isn't a paying user over a thread that was doing just fine for over 7 years seems a little much.
That's me you are referencing. It wasn't a complaint. It was a statement of fact. There was a day with 3 pages in a row with no memes posted. Luckily it all got deleted. If you have a funny meme in reply to another meme they leave it up. Otherwise, make a new thread for the discussion, and frame the topic in the OP.

I think not. And have zero problem with that.

Ban suggestion:
Perhaps bans escalate beginning with banning the offending poster from the given thread (would solve 95% of the issues), and if the poster doesn't get the message, a forum-specific ban, and then on to a forum-wide ban. That might be a bit protracted but more palatable. Just a thought.
The forum software does not support that, I bet.
I was an admin on a forum some time ago, and you could only ban or not ban. No granularity.
The board software is not modifiable by TA unless they hack the code.
Fairly certain TexAgs has done most of their own code. It's why the layout and function is so much better than other, trashy sites.
