100%.

I caught a 3 day ban a few weeks ago for absolutely nothing. The post was up for 10+ hours. No user guidelines violated. Bizarre.

Can you please tell your mods this?

I've had more threads than I can count deleted for "trolling" that were good faith efforts to discuss subjects where I was most certainly not within the majority opinion, when other threads that are flagrant trolling/pile-on/blue star farming get left up just because the mods agree with them.

Here's a tip: Any thread that starts with "Question for the liberals on here ..." is (most likely) a troll designed to invite others to **** all over people they don't agree with.

Absolutely this, as well as throwing out blanket accusations of mental illness or slurs against groups of people. That's not discussion or anything in good faith; it's nothing more than a dogpile.

Too many threads are locked for dumb reasons like there isn't enough context. Why don't you let the forum participants decide if a thread is worthwhile instead of preemptively making that decision for them? Its one thing if somebody is breaking rules of decorum, being vulgar or just trolling, but its another to lock a thread because the OP didn't craft their post as carefully as you might like.
On the other hand it would be better for the board to consolidate threads when there is a MASSIVE thread discussing DOGE-

and four days later some other poster comes in and posts a new thread titled "can we talk about DOGE"

this happens all the time.

[Create a thread that frames the discussion and it will not be locked. This is a discussion forum, not an X/Tweet forwarding platform. plz no ban, and I understand the point of eliminating "discussion" on the funny political tweet thread since that is the point of the thread, but replying to someone's post is eliminated 100% of the time?

i guess one user complained a few months ago that people would go on and on "for pages" [citation needed] instead of just being full of x links and memes, but that thread isn't as good as it used to be.

Sure, if a squabble or argument goes on "for pages", I get it, clean it up.

But not being able to even comment on the things being posted has made the thread lesser in my opinion.

again, not criticizing moderation, just saying. Most people used to use that thread like me -- posting something that might not deserve its own thread. If you dont like it, keep scrolling. It's not hard. Changing the mod policy on that thread because of a single complaint from a single user that isn't a paying user over a thread that was doing just fine for over 7 years seems a little much.

That's me you are referencing. It wasn't a complaint. It was a statement of fact. There was a day with 3 pages in a row with no memes posted. Luckily it all got deleted. If you have a funny meme in reply to another meme they leave it up. Otherwise, make a new thread for the discussion, and frame the topic in the OP.

One of the best moderation changes in the past few years was keeping that one amazing thread fun to follow. You can always start a "not so funny replies to memes" thread and post away. That's what's great about this site.

I appreciate the fact that a place like F16 exists.

The effort put into keeping this place going is a huge benefit and a pain in the ass Brandon doesn't need.

A genuine thank you.

Whoever you 'employ' as moderators need to be caused to study this. Posts are deleted for reasons not in line with your directives, posts are edited with inflammatory or incendiary moderator comments, etc. You'll eventually run into someone with cash to waste that will take exception. Very likely this post, a thoughtful direct response to the owner of this site, will be deleted or be ban-worthy.

Board self policing is something I have advocated for for a long long time to mods, often after I get a ban for calling someone out who should be ostracized from this place. We absolutely should be able to run off people who do not belong here, and when I and others have tried, often times it is us who get the bans while the questionable people remain, which leads to the appearance that they are protected, which is insane once you know why they should be run off.

[It is not your role or anyone else's to "run off people who don't belong here." Your belief that it is and corresponding behavior are why your posting privileges are occasionally suspended. Our posting policies are very clear and be found here. If you believe a post isn't consistent with these policies, please flag it for moderator review. We will review it and take appropriate action, which could range from removing it, suspending a poster temporarily, or leaving it up if we're not convinced it violates posting policies. Thanks -- Staff]

I understand your position and disagree vehemently with it. Which is why I have advocated that the board should be able to self police. Most online communities are able to do this.

I'm not talking about self policing for thought, beliefs or opinions, but rather actions and verifiable personal history of criminal behavior. It's not something that would happen often, but there have been some other unsavory folks on this site over the years that probably shouldn't be welcome in to the community, especially because this place touches the real lives of so many of us. I have made several great friends through this site and see some posters here regularly, and talk to others almost daily and I never would have known these people outside of this board. I am certainly not the only one who has had this experience.

Brandon should bring back "Flame post with no meaningful information" as a flag option. I think that would address a number of the complaints posted in this thread.

Ban suggestion:
Perhaps bans escalate beginning with banning the offending poster from the given thread (would solve 95% of the issues), and if the poster doesn't get the message, a forum-specific ban, and then on to a forum-wide ban. That might be a bit protracted but more palatable. Just a thought.

The forum software does not support that, I bet.
I was an admin on a forum some time ago, and you could only ban or not ban. No granularity.
The board software is not modifiable by TA unless they hack the code.

Fairly certain TexAgs has done most of their own code. It's why the layout and function is so much better than other, trashy sites.
